Video Podcast: Los Lobos and the Making of The Town and the City

Los Lobos

After 33 years and 13 albums together, Los Lobos are preparing to release their impressive new set of songs titled The Town and the City on September 12. And, while there’s never really been a “bad” Los Lobos album, this new one is definitely among the band’s best work. AMG’s Mark Deming describes it thusly:

“…a simpler and more measured set than one might expect from Los Lobos, with a lower quotient of full-on rock, but the band’s performances are as tight and sinewy as ever; David Hidalgo offers yet another master class in virtuoso guitar playing (without strutting his ego or boring the listener in the process), and Cesar Rosas remains his perfect instrumental foil.”

Want to see how the band arrived at this place? Lucky for us, they’re offering a five-part video podcast series documenting the making of The Town and the City at their site. Parts 1-3 have already been released, with the 4th installment coming on Monday. The 5th and final one will arrive September 11, the day before the album hits stores. Who needs VH1 anymore when bands are producing their own informative video content? Screw some Behind the Music!

  1. los lobos is a band that, for whatever reason, i’ve sort of ignored… this video podcast has me interested in them + this release, for sure..

  2. Hey Robert, I’d recommend picking up the 2-disc comp they released in 1993 to get a really good feel for the band. I got it when it was new and, without becoming a “rabid” fan, have definitely maintained an inspired interest since hearing it. Amazon’s got it (pretty cheap used).
