The Beastie Boys have released track info from their forthcoming disc The Mix Up. They also claim it’s going to be all instrumental. That would be kind of a bummer, but with The Beasties you never know when they’re kidding and when they’re not.

Haven’t you heard of “The In Sound From Way Out”?? In my opinion, it is one of their best albums, and the jams they recorded provided them with some killer backgrounds to create their best songs.

After the last album, it would be nice if they shut up for a while. They are so lyrically out of ideas.

  2. The In Sound From Way Out was more a compilation of instrumentals culled from existing albums. While it was enjoyable, it also showcased the fact that while the Beasties are talented at mimicking funk instrumentals circa 1973, they’re not really great at making them their own.

Although I’ll grant you that their last disc was disappointing both lyrically and musically, so maybe it is a good idea for them to just work on building one skill back up at a time.

I think an instrumental might be a good idea for the boys, as their lyrical talents seem to have played out.

And the funk is at least fun to listen to.
