  1. Robert Duffy says:

i am seeing a bunch of repeats.. or maybe trying to absorb the schedule is making me loopy.

  2. frank says:

    devotchka are def playing twice.

    wednesday is stacked.

  3. Matt says:

Kimya Dawson, Serj Tankian, Tom Morello, and Special Guests! Definite must see, especially at a 7pm time slot.

  4. frank says:

just finished a quick first pass of the sched – geez, it’s feast or famine. five acts I want to see playing at the same time or nothing.

  5. Brian says:

islands are listed twice on thursday: emo’s and cedar street.

  6. Brian says:

i’ve just gone up through thursday so far and have seen a few more: martha wainwright, dark meat, jens lekman, not counting the day stages as repeats.

  7. the_birds says:

I’ve seen at least 10 bands with two showcases?

SXSW is losing their F’ing minds. How poor is the scheduling this year? They probably should have put more effort into scheduling, and less effort into the wristband redux. The Wednesday night debacle is as bad as scheduling has EVER been for this festival. I can’t believe the number of highly touted acts playing on this one night and then how thinly the talent is spread for the rest of the festival. What a joke. Thanks for marginalizing the festival, schedulers! You’re F’ing fired!

  8. pete says:

i’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt…. maybe some of the duplicates are errors…. posting this schedule’s gotta be a complicated thing.

let’s give ‘em a day to let it settle in…. then we can roast ‘em!

  9. Jane says:

For me Thursday is the worst, considering cutting myself in half to be able to see the folks I will cry if I don’t see. Please day parties save the debacle that the SXSW schedules have become, give us options for seeing these essential bands.

  10. Brian says:

i think the schedule’s alright. not perfect, but good enough. the only place i don’t have an act right now is saturday at eight. my main two problems with it:
    1. whoever thought it would be a good idea to have bands play from x:30-x:30 instead of x:00-x:00 is a moron.
    2. why is every band playing two or more showcases except destroyer?

  11. Brian says:

    wait a second….

where in the hell are the breeders?

  12. chip says:

Let’s not forget that the schedule was JUST released. This seems to happen every year. I’m sure there will be quite a few changes before SXSW kicks off. I mean, Saturday night at Stubb’s shows just one performer … Duffy (oh how I wish it was ROBERT Duffy).

  13. Matt says:

I can’t believe how much whining goes on about SXSW each year, yet every year I have a great time. What is everyone so upset about? They can’t build their schedule to fit everyone’s perfect wish list and a lot is determined by the bands themselves and their availability. Quit complaining and enjoy the best music festival out there.

  14. the_birds says:

If we aren’t supposed to complain, why is there a place for comments? We’re just supposed to spend hundreds (thousands) of dollars and meet all the innumeral rules and then supposed to be ecstatic when they don’t make the schedules conducive to getting our money’s worth? Even if you aren’t paying to go, its best to make it easier for people to see a high percentage of the good new and hyped acts.

Besides, like someone else said its still early. If we complain now, they still have a chance to make some positive changes.

  15. Malone says:

To answer somebody’s question, Breeders are set for Saturday in Waterloo Park.

Of course, people will complain, just like they do on the ACL board and every other music fest board. It never gets old. Just wait until May when ACL schedule comes out, folks can really whine up a storm.

SXSW is what it is, I trust everybody will find a way to have a good time, despite the schedule not being perfect for their unique desires.

  16. ACzar says:

Looks good to me…almost everything I want to see is happening at a time I can go see it…

but I’m usually one of the few who doesn’t find much to complain about – SXSW has consistently been amazing every year I’ve been (this is #10 – and I’m playing ten gigs during the fest to celebrate!)

Howlin Rain! Mark Kozelek! Enslaved!! Those three alone are worth twice the price of admission (admittedly, free).

  17. erin says:

My only issue is that they seem to, every year, have an uncanny knack of scheduling all my must-see bands against one another. Which would be fine but considering most of these bands fall in the same genre (what? I don’t get out much.) or label interest, it does tend to be frustrating.

  18. Chris says:

theres a lot of holes yet and alot of acts to be filled in i gather

  19. stacey says:

ok, newbie again here….with question….do you have to have a wristband or badge to see these…..or is there a cover at the showcases? Sorry, I just have no clue here and I want to make this a good time for the short time I will be there. I will have no wristband, no badge….help

  20. They’ve also posted a day/night party schedule over on 360 which mixes official with non-sxsw. Check it out at Austin 360 Side Parties.

  21. laura says:

no wristband or badge needed. 42 acts seen last year with less than 75 bucks spent getting in. you’ll be fine! just research and plan. use maps. have backup shows.

  22. erin says:

    stacey,

just make sure you show up early for then bands you want to see. If you can find showcases that offer more than one band you’re interested in, I’d recommend getting in right at 8 and watching that entire showcase. And then there are plenty of day parties for you to go to w/o a badge or wristband.

  23. the_birds says:

Also, Stace its 21 + up. I’ll reinforce the “pick a strong lineup and stay all night.” Some day parties require RSVP. Definitely do that, without it, you don’t have a chance at entering the best ones.

  24. Jrrry says:

    Stace,

Check out this site, you can win VIP passes to the Levis/FADER Fort and free flights/hotel in Austin:

  25. Emily says:

To Brian: If you still haven’t found a band to see at 8 pm on Saturday, might I suggest Spiral Beach at Momo’s, or Grand Analog at Flamingo Cantina. Soooo gooood….

  26. stacey says:

thanks everyone for the responses….I have rsvp’d to several day shows already. again, thanks!
