Former Little Brother’s talent buyer Ben Hamilton recently started a new company in Columbus, Ben Co Presents. He’s had some good shows over the last few months (Silver Mt Zion, John Vanderslice), but his upcoming slate of shows is really impressive:

Columbus, OH – BenCo Presents is thrilled (and just relieved, frankly) to finally spill the beans regarding details for the inaugural summer shows at Milo Arts. The Silver Jews will be there Thursday August 28, and Xiu Xiu on that Saturday August 30. Ah, purge!! Release!! Press!!

For the uninitiated, BenCo Presents has been promoting a variety of shows at rooms on the near Northside (Skully’s, Ravari Room, Rumba Café, etc) since fall last year. Recent shows include Thee Silver Mt Zion, mewithoutYou, and Langhorne Slim. Promoter Ben Hamilton has been part of local music for nearly 20 years and has spent time everywhere, from sloppy drummer and punk-rock pizza parlor manager to esteemed-venue talent buyer and guy with some drums in his basement.

Milo Arts has a much more storied past but we’re short on space. A 100+ year old middle school, in the 80’s it was taken over to become what it is today: a colony of artists and performers living and working in altered classrooms and commons spaces, all under one roof. Three roofs, actually. One covers the main building, another a 1950’s addition. The third was made some 70 years ago to house a gymnasium and a stage. Today that stage is being built out to accommodate the arrival of anything that comes its way. Full sound and lighting production is waiting in the wings.

These events will have refreshments available at full-service bars. The bars will be operated in cooperation with local non-profit organizations that will benefit from a portion of the proceeds generated.

And the bands speak for themselves, right?

Silver Jews tickets will be available at www.ticketweb.com Saturday 6/28 and at the usual local outlets (Used Kids and Magnolia Thunderpussy) shortly thereafter.
