The Well-Dressed Downs are a new, scruffy folk-pop duo in Columbus. …I know what you’re thinking: “Does Columbus really need another scruffy folk-pop group?” Well, if the group is this promising, then yes. Brad Freeman and Isaac Anderson have only played a couple of shows, but I like what I’ve heard so far. With guitar, banjo, organ and a kick drum, they’re like a more literate, pre-Rubin Avett Brothers, though their home recordings are more subdued and Sufjan-ish. (They’d fit well on a bill with Old Hundred, Our Cat Philip and the like.) You can catch the Well-Dressed Downs at Vic’s (apparently the new name of Victorian’s Midnight Cafe) Jan. 8 and Feb. 12.
On Monday WDD wrote and recorded an original Christmas tune, which you can download above.
(And if Christmas music is your thing, be on the lookout next week for a free download of an in-the-works “Christmas in Columbus” digital compilation.)
