Personally I feel all dogs should be on leashes while walking to or from a park. Like a child or a drunken friend, you never know what random thing will grab their attention. Of course you have the option to learn this lesson.

That's the point, control your dog. Kids, cars, occassional winos don't spook my dog. He's trained. Not that it matters much but when I walk them at peak hours (after work) he has a leash and I do spend a lot of time a Goodale Park. If you're ever there come up and say hi, I don't bite.

ps. I would kick any dog that threatened a child without a thought, but I would punch anyone in the neck that threatened my Aussie. I know I'm a dog dork.
