Very sad story.

That crossing is less than 2000 feet from my house. I drive through that school zone every morning on the way to work. She would wave at me almost every day including yesterday at 8:40 AM. Very sad indeed.

Can people just slow the fuck down in school zones? For fuck's sake!

I don't see how he could not have seen the woman in the middle of the street, in a school zone, before he hit her. It is a sad story, one woman lost her life, one child is injured, one man will probably spend a lot of time in jail, and the entire community is saddened. Tragedy indeed.

A big part of the shittiness for me is that if he hit the crossing guard and the kid, that means that he either ran a red light or made a turn without checking. From the sounds of it (and the physics of a dump truck picking up enough speed to hit someone to kill them) he must have run a red light.
How he didn't see them? let's see, cell phone, meth, the joint he was smoking fell in his lap, he got catchup on his jeans from the burger he was eating etc...
my drive on 161 to Neward gets more hazerdous each day due to the douchebag truckers that now populate the road due to the construction. they seem to give less of a shit about everyones safety every day...forgetting that they are driving virtual tanks!

A couple of years ago my little sister bought a new minivan for her family. She didn't buy gap insurance. Less than ten minutes off the lot she was ran off the road by a semi that tried changing into her lane while she was in it. She honked at him and he kept on going, totalling her car and sending her flying into a ditch. When he realized what he did he tried taking an exit and fleeing but a car stopped in front of him. Unfortunatly that driver left before the cops came so there was no witness to his fleeing. She ended up owing a shitload of money because she didn't have gap insurance so she only got blue book value for the vehicle from his insurance and that didn't cover her medical expenses either.

My sister won't give me this guy's personal information, because I would show up at his house and crush his skull with a clawhammer.

Truck drivers are like cops, they're saddled with a huge responsibility, and like cops they should be punished more severely than average citizens because of it.

Death to cops who fuck up and death to truck drivers that hurt innocent people on the road.

Simple solution and I bet that if cops and truck drivers had to worry about a televised beheading if they fuck up that cops would be a whole hell of a lot more polite to the average citizen and truck drivers would finally learn to pay attention.

In Mexico, they control speeding without enforcement by building huge asphalt mounds (speed bumps on steroids) that will destroy your car if you fail to slow down. I could put up with a little "inconvenience" like that to ensure that no one would blast through a school zone (although I can imagine some offenders suing the city for damage to their cars). The thought of the principal having to stand by the road and yell at speeders is nauseating.
