I need to replace my driver seat in my car and imagine it's going to cost me $$$. would going to a junkyard even be a good idea? i have no idea how any of that shit might even work, or even if that is an option in the Columbus area.

I broke some tire/frame thingy once, and there was a place over in Bexley that was able to get a used part and it saved me a ton of $$.
They looked at what I needed, called around to a few salvage places, and fixed it in a day.

If they can't do it, I bet they can tell you who can.

Many places are of the "pick and pull" variety, meaning they give you a general idea where the car is in their lot, and you go out into the lot w/ tools and remove the seat & haul it back yourself. This is the cheapest route, but can be a pain for obvious reasons, especially if you don't have/don't use the appropriate tools.

There's several of these places clustered together on McKinley & around Joyce & 17th.

As you can imagine though, it might be a challenge to find a seat in a junkyard that isn't messed up cosmetically. The car probably won't have glass, so the interior is going to be exposed to the elements. Bad news for a cloth seat.

I'm a cheapskate with a box of tools though, so this is the route I would try first. If you need to borrow some wrenches, I'd be happy to lend you a set. It's good for feeling "dude-like".

I replaced a door to my 87 Honda Accord by picking one up at the junkyard. Saved me a lot of money and didn't take that long to do. And I'm a horrible mechanic.

you can also have almost any shop (non-dealership shop, that is) search the database of used parts and find something for you. They get it from any number of sources and install it, you never deal with the junkyard. this is easier, but you might not see as great a cost benefit, especially if they ship something. But, on the plus side, they have access to a lot more parts and can do it a lot faster than going on the hunt yourself.

there are some junkyards that actually keep inventory of what they have and will pull parts off for you. you just call or go in and tell them what they want, they get it, bring it in to you and charge you. i think they are a little more expensive than the ones where you get the parts yourself. i can't remember the name of the one i went to, but it was in one of those parts of town that has lots of junkyards. i think off of 5th between cleveland and the airport (i know that's a broad description, but it's all i remember).

Junkyards are a great way to keep your car going, get rid of it, or just to party around in. Why do you think I'm in a band called Salvage???

Everything domestic and foriegn is yours. Glass, hupcaps, alternators, tires, leaf springs, transmissions, blocks, terminals, eletrical parts that "don't exist anywhere else", cosmetics, seats, anything and everything.

You need to know where they keep the "fresh kills". That shit won't be weathered brah.

Chrys the drummer from Salvage has saved me about a bazillion dollars just through his knowledge of tools and junkyards.

Make waste yours!!!
