to play devil's advocate for a second:

dude lives in a house that has been fucked with by kids for years
he seemed surprised that it was becasue it was a "haunted" house
he never said he knew they were girls, just that there were people on his property that he had to chase off, and then they came driving back 'round for more

also, what kid is gonna tell the cops/parents that they might've been doing something that might have justified the shooting. "we just wnet a few feet in and turned around and left" is the EXACT kind of lie a kid tells when he did something wrong that got out-of-hand, and now they can't admit that it might just be their fault. lord knows i told enough of those as a kid

also, from the description of the place, it seems like they (the home-dwellers) were probably a little less well-off than the average worthingtonite, making them a target of rich-kids probably that much more often.
