i was there 5:15 until around 6 and there was no line.

i had chicago and ohioana dogs, mac & cheese, and blatz. 'twas all good. i will be back soon.

I had the razzle-dazzle dog (grilled peppers, onions, cream cheese), tater tots and a chris sabo (orange vodka & cherry slushie) last night and all was MAGICAL. Service was fast and excellent.

i went last night, and it was awesome! great service and atmosphere.
i had a very tasty chicago dog, and they were kind enough to finagle serving it to me without the bun (i am sensitive to gluten).

my second trip warranted a t-dog (sriracha mustard, bacon, roasted red peppers and cheddar cheese) and a hot bollywood (mango chutney). yummerz. i have a feeling i'll be going here pretty much every sunday after band practice.

also, southern comfort + cherry slush = the only good use for southern comfort.

so, finally made it over there last night, and i have to say... it wasn't all that.

which is not to say that it was bad, but...

do you have to specifically ask that your dogs get grilled? seemed like mine were boiled/steamed/really-REALLY-lightly grilled, anyhow they were more like "kinda warm" dogs.

if you're like me, and your temp. pref. for dogs is "grease hemmoraghing splitter," then that's a problem.

but, if you can ask that they be grilled or "well done" or something, i don't see this as a problem in the future.

second of all, i had the Chris Sabo from Hell. There was like a half inch of slush on the top and the rest was pure vodka. Normally, I wouldn't mind (because i like to party) but i was hoping for something tasty to go with the dogs and tots.

I got the Seoul Dog, which i thought would be great since i love Kim Chee and Hot Dogs (i thought, "it'll be like i'm driving Famke Jansen and Molly Sims around... in my mouth!"), but i found that i really just wanted to pick off the Kim Chee and eat it seperately, and as stated early the dog was undercooked for my taste. Maybe if it were crispier i would've left the Kim Chee on the dog, but at least it was good Kim Chee.

Also got the T-Dog. Thought that was really good, again only hindered by the undercooking. Tried the Classy Lady, and was surprised at how good i thought that was.

The Good:
Service was excellent, friendly and fast.

I will be back again, for sure. i will just tell them to cook the fuck out of my hot dogs.

I am with you, I like my dog on the crispy side. Love the restaurant though, and the decor is great.

i forgot to mention, the Buckaroo Bonzai was awesome. i never would have thought to combine whiskey and orange soda.

if you really wanna flip them out, ask for your dog to be deep fried. not only will it be more than hot enough, but you'll also get extra snap out of the natural casing.

i heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend that asking for non-boiled production of hot dogs at dirty frank's is often met with the "that's not how they do it in chicago" response. this is an exaggeration: the dirty water boil is the norm, but some of chicago's better dog joints (hot doug's, weiner's circle, gold coast) offer a char-dog which is, you guessed it, flame-grilled. hot doug's will actually deep fry your dog AND grill it, which is fucking delicious.

all in all, i'm cool with dirty frank's keeping it simple. most of the dog joints in columbus make this stuff WAY too complicated. it is, after all, just a hot dog...

yeah, i figure it'll be fine once i change the way i order. boiled hot dogs just aren't my bag. i even prefer the microwave over boiling.

i really want to go back to get some of those fries with the cheese and bacon.
