My co-worker is moving to a new apartment and they do not allow big dogs. He and his family are very concerned about what will become of their 2 year family pet rottweiler Padre.

Padre is 2 years old, fixed, house broken, understands basic commands and is very well behaved. He has only had one owner, my friends family which includes two adults and two children 4 and 6 years old. He is very gentle and very good with the kids. His shots are all up to date but if there is any concern his current owners will pay for a vet check up to put your mind at ease. The vet has made the comment that he is one of the healthier "rotties" that he has seen...no signs of hip displasia (sp?) and a very nice coat.

Padre is a big dog weighing between 100-115lbs so you can see why it will be a difficult task finding him a good home. The last resort at this point is to try and get him into the Capital Area Humane Society (they don't euthanise (sp?)) if noone can take him.

I have personally met Padre many times and can attest that he is a good dog. He was crate trained and is very affectionate. He would also double as a pet/home alarm system with his intimidating size and bark.

both. I can carry my wife and dog if I had to I think, assuming both are unconscious.

As someone who has had a lot of (and only) rescue animals, I really wish I could give this guy a home. Personally, I would never choose an apartment over a dog, but that's just me (and some others).

He looks like a real sweetheart - I just wish people would make better and more informed decisions before they get a dog.

I feel bad for this family. If I didn't already have two, I'd take this one in a heartbeat.

I can certainly see both sides of this topic, though. I realize that people's circumstances change, but there isn't a life disaster, short of a Wizard of Oz-strength tornado, that would separate me from my dogs.

I am sure it isn't easy for Ramirez's friend's family to give up their dog either. Horrible situation all around. Padre's a cute dog. I'd love to have a dog if I had my own place with a yard.

Anyone looking for a cat too? Someone dropped 50 cats off at the Fairfield County animal shelter this week. The shelter was full and was turning people away and had signs out asking people not to drop off animals, but they came in one morning and someone had dropped off 50 cats, 9 of which are pregnant.
