2008 Columbus Crew

Is anybody else following the Crew this year? This is the kind of season I've been waiting for since I was 12!

They've now got a cushion at the top of the standings after a dominating 4-0 win tonight over the league's second place team. [] Every player has been playing impeccable soccer. I just hope they aren't peaking too early.

I don't bleed black and gold, but I've definitely caught the fever. We were at last night's game and it was fantastic. The defense was stifling and the Crew just seemed really quick to the ball. I don't think NE got more than a few legitimate chances on goal.

...and the atmosphere in the stadium is electric. Loads of fun!

This is the most fun I've had since the first season...the atmosphere's a ton of fun, and the Nordecke make it tough on visiting teams. I'm loving it.

Revs are whining that their players were tired.

We didn't have Frankie or leading goal scorer Alejandro. We crushed em.

That Lehnert kid's got spunk. Too soon to tell, but he just might have a future in this league.

New England has a legitimate beef that they were short-handed, but it's not different than the situation that columbus found themselves in at this point (or earlier) in the season many times in the past. including last year. roster depth is really key in this league, and columbus has figured it out and is winning. remember how toronto started the season well? and now where are they? the bottom. because they've got nine guys who can play.

and you guys are right, columbus is finally deserving of both praise and support. seriously, it's the second cheapest ticket in town, and they let you drink in the parking lot. even if you have just a passing interest in anything athletic, it's worth checking out one of the few remaining home games.

Buck-a-Brat night tonight. (That's bratwurst, not crabby little kids.) 7 p.m. kickoff. It's a great night for soccer. And if Bourbon Street's power doesn't come back on tonight, maybe the electricity gods will allow for post-game drinking with the Hudson Street Hooligans at Ruby's instead.

Crew dominate without Schletto. We made NY's defense look silly. I can't remember ever having this much confidence in every position.

Prediction: next year Ekpo will not be on the Crew but will be starting for some other team.

I like Padula a lot. Great distributor. Maybe I don't see the mentioned weaknesses because I've sat through the last four seasons of our awful awful defense.

Gaven has been creating great opportunities and then flubbing them since he first arrived here. That's his m.o. How many times has he receieved the ball and then used his incredible speed and skill to win a one v one with the keeper and then blown the shot? I've been most impressed by his defense this year. Both he and Rogers will sprint the length of the field to make a defensive stop.

RE: Migs-Ekpo...Migs is far more solid on the defensive end, while Ekpo makes better offensive runs. Both have their valus depending on needs at the time.

Second best atmosphere I've experienced at Crew Stadium. Intense game and an intense crowd. Great fun.
