I love this guitar but SXSW is rapidly approaching and I need cash.
This is a 60's Gibson Melody Maker, with the desirable (at least to me) SG body style. Here's a link to a Melody Maker appreciation thread on another board:
http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/other-g ... ead-4.htmlLotsa pics and info on Melody Makers. If this thing were in perfect shape, it would easily be worth $1000+. However it isn't, so it's not.
It's a refin. Originally Pelham Blue, it's now white. The original single coil bridge pickup has been replaced with a Seymour Duncan. The stop tailpiece has been replaced with an adustable tune-o-matic style stop tailpiece. And most excitingly, the neck at one point has been broken off where it meets the body, and then re-attached. This must have happened after the refin, because what some sort of non-matching white paint has been blopped over the neck joint. Please look at the pictures carefully. (sorry, the last two are thumbnails, just click on them for the full-size photos)
So yeah. As far as investment grade guitars go, keep looking. It's fucking cool though, and it's a vintage Gibson for a fraction of the cost. I bought it because I'm a player, and I like to dick around on guitar. But I'm primarily a bass player, and my main axes are already in the pawn shop. So this guy is first on the chopping block.
I'm asking $300 firm, that's what I paid for it and it turns out that's the amount of money I presently need.
I'm giving Donewaiting and Columbusunderground first crack at this thing because I would really, really like to avoid the craigslist community of tirekickers and douchebags. Send me a message if you'd like to see it.
