Saw him play a solo show last December in London. He mentioned playing ATP earlier that year with his family.

"I don't get often get the opportunity to go on tour with the whole family," he said. "Because not many people buy our records."

This is a shame.

They played on the first day of ATP last year, and we'd never heard of them. Nor, I suspect had most of the audience.

We'd seen Shellac at the smaller stage downstairs and had gone upstairs to sit down for a bit, stretch out, have a beer, whatever.

Anyway, they came on, all in their wacky medical garb, and the crowd started to pay a bit of attention. And within a song or two, they had the entire venue eating out of their hands. Everybody, and I mean everybody was joining in, doing the clapping during songs thing, the whole kit and kaboodle, and the cheers after every song got progressively louder, everybody standing there with huge grins on their faces. And I don't just mean the band.

A couple of songs from the end, the chap who was standing next to me leaned over and asked if I'd heard of them before.

"No," I said.
"They're good aren't they," he grinned.
"They're fucking brilliant," i replied. "Fucking brilliant."

Shellac again a couple of days later. Bob Weston is wearing a Danielson hat. Albini mentions them from the stage. Something along the lines of

"How many of you people got to see the Danielson Famile the other day? Weren't they fucking amazing?"

The bill included the Breeders, Mission of Burma, Arcwelder and Shellac three times, and the Famile were up there with all of them. A wonderful live band, and I wish they'd come back over to the UK

I've seen the whole band maybe 3 times and I've seen just Daniel a few times solo. I was always kind of afraid to approach him after a show because, not being a religious guy myself, I didn't know if he would try to start a conversation about God or whatever. Finally, after seeing him do a solo performance I talked to him and he was a really nice guy. The topic of religion never came up. I've talked to him a few more times since then ... just a really nice and friendly guy.

I had the same vibe the first (and, unfortunately, only) time that I saw the Polyphonic Spree. They scared me -- too many happy people with glazed over eyes. But, just like with the Danielson Famile, it only took about 20 seconds of the first song to turn me into a fan. Now i'm going through Polyphonic Spree withdrawl and am hoping they come to Ohio sometime this Summer (WAIT ... they should DEFINITELY be on this year's Lollapalooza tour!!! Let me see what I can about getting them on the bill -- Um, yeah, like I have that kind of pull!!!).
