Johnny Go was blasting this record today through his outdoor speaker. High St. never sounded better.

I'm a big fan. Lots of good releases with a similar vibe so far this year--M. Ward, Elvis Perkins...

Neko has a beautiful voice, but, so does Whitney Houston and she doesn't write very good love songs, either.

I've enjoyed a couple of her live shows in spite of that, though.

So I finally gave this one a fair listen--and I like it. I actually like it better than her last album (though I love Hold On, Hold On). I'm sure it won't get the critical acclaim her last one did, as it's less challenging, but this one's more obvious country roots are more pleasing to my ear. I like the old school chugga chugga steam engine rhythm that is used on several of these songs.
