1. As slang definitions do evolve it is important to keep in touch from time to time. The Urban dictionary is sometimes helpul just for getting generally oriented. I've been trying to take "gay" back for decades. I think you misread me, Jill. I too am a pacifist. I don't run though. Depending how hard I am thrown by the owner, door man or sound guy I have been known to even roll away. Walking is typically sufficient, though.

2. It has recently been brought to my attention that some of your mothers read this message board (I thought the particular bar owner who told me this might start crying. "Jesus Christ", I thought. "Am I being punked?"). I am very sorry for some of the things that I have said as your mothers read on (although it sure as hell doesn't make them any less true) and I am very sorry that you have mothers who read this.

If your mother is a reader, you may just want to start your own open dialogue with her that's potentially less offensive, less candid and/or historically accurate than what is found here.

I only meant to say that punk rock is gay in the pejorative sense and may be its saving grace. I'm a big fan of anything garage, low-fi. d.i.y., gay or otherwise that exists in spite of itself with a sense of humor and foolish courageousness.

When you come in touch with the folks who only play the part, you can see right through them and it's kind of sad and nauseating at once-those humorless actors of subversiveness; some bar owner telling you to fu#& off and threaten to kick your a$$ (sure, you and what fu#$ing army, lard a$$?) because their Mom (for real?, wha...?) read your post. They can't even look you in the eye or crack a smile when the finest joke is upon them. That's just sadbastardry and pretentiousness on a level I'll never relate to.

If you can't find common ground among the collective absurdity and humor in all of this musical bs and random maniacal expression and laugh and make amends and move on, then I'd say you're kind of eternally screwed and probably wouldn't know rock and roll if it sucked your balls through your drawers.
