Just wondering if there was any online source/site for finding out the value/worth of vinyl LP's? Geared towards more rock/indie rock/metal genres specifically.. Got some old, out-of-print records and just curious if they are worth anything! Thanks people!

My wife's parents just inherited a rather large album collection, and it's my job to determine if it's worth anything. If anyone wants any vintage opera vinyl, I'm your guy :(

I find discogs to be a nightmare just because there is always some fucker trying to sell some record well over going rate. For instance, weakling "dead as dreams" hasn't ever hit $400 and some dude is asking $400 and change. It's cracked $300 once and mostly sniffs $250 according to collectors frenzy. Don't use discogs to gauge going rate of a record. You'll still get skewed prices on collectors frenzy but not to the level of discogs IMO.

if yr 'savvy' you can use discogs, at least to see what people are asking and not receiving for a record. it's certainly not as insane as amazon, anyhow. it becomes less useful th more obscure a record is, of course, or simply for releases that don't have anyone tryng to sell a copy on there. also, th gaps in it are sometimes hilarious.

I could definitely get down to some classical. Please let me know if you have any of the following

Bartok, Stravinsky, Messiaen, Schoenberg, Webern, Berg, Varese, Scriabin, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Ravel, Satie, Debussy, Milhaud, Penderecki, or any Romantic or Modern Russian, French Impressionist, 12-tone Serialism, or really anything weird and interesting.

just read this on some ebay auction and it made me laugh:

Quote:
An overview of how we grade is in the *Me* section of our profile, as we do not use the Goldmine system of grading. While our feedback (which is mostly vinyl sales) shows we are very honest and fair graders, record grading is very subjective. If you are ultra super conservative, to save all parties trouble, we kindly ask you please move along because if you really try you can always find something wrong with a record. We sell solid records and try not to over grade but opinions do differ and we've found our opinion mainly only differs with those that are absolute fanatics about condition who probably should not be buying used vinyl records online in the first place due to the fact that the record is site unseen.

(emphasis mine)

PLUS, when you rate a record as "vg+" (as they did earlier in th listing where this was) and then say you don't use th goldmine system, what th fuck?
