i have absolutely nothing to gain from posting this.

Motorpsycho
Nadja
Grails

Black Box @ Wex
This Friday 6/20.

ok, i do have something to gain - i don't want to be the only person at this show.

if you like sonic youth, you should be at this show.

controversial opinion alert: i like motorpsycho more than sonic youth.

If I was not going to Terrastock I would be there. I hope people do go. Motorpsycho never play in America and they are only doing three shows while they are here. This is a rare chance. Don't miss it folks.

Both Grails and Nadja are quite good as well.

i'll be there!
I like Nadja a lot. Didn't think I'd ever see them live and was pretty excited when I saw this show announced. I've only heard two Motorpyscho albums, but i do like what I've heard.
Should be a great show.

I was going to hock my tix for the Wex show, but I think I'm going to go to both. Haven't heard Nadja.

very easily in the top 5 shows i've ever seen. motorpsycho are way fucking amazing. missed nadja, thought grails had cool ideas but didn't really hit it.

i don't know if i'd put it in the top 5 shows i've ever seen, but it was very, very good. their drummer is death defying - i guess i never gave much thought to how someone plays like that when listening to their records. it's easy to get hypnotized by the drawn out sections, but they're so adept at turning everything on a dime and launching into a new direction... fuck. amazing.

also, i'm consistently impressed with the sound at the wexner center. this show was blisteringly loud, but the tiniest details were still recognizable. A+

The wexs booking style has changed a lot over the last year. This show does not redeem that. I don't love Motorpyscho but it is better than Vampire Weekend or Grizzly Bear for me. After seeing both Motorpshcho and Grails at Terrastock I am glad I didn't go because those were two of my least favorite sets I saw all weekend. So with all the 40 bands playing terrastock and being so close to Columbus, I think it is too bad all we got from it was two of the lamest bands there. I love Nadja and am sad I missed them.

The wexner used to have both progressive/"art" music and some pop stuff now it is almost all pop and mostly bands overhyped by pitchfork. I used to go to 75% or so of their music shows. In 2008 I have gone once.

So in my opinion the wex has lost the musical reputation it built from 2000 on. Which sucks all the more with the lack of Little Brothers.

Yer crazy, sir. In a good way, but crazy. The Motorpsycho TStock set was one of the best, hands down. At least our car-ride home voted so.

I'm sure the Wex set was awesome as well. Curious as to what the attendance was for the show?

And I guess this is as good of place as any to aks cruise where to begin with their LPs? Also new about this band but never bothered to check it out. Now I must.

I dont know, maybe like 40-50 people? Maybe someone else who went has a better idea...I showed up shortly before Nadja started and there was about 15-20 people there. Seemed like more showed up during Nadja to catch Grails play.
Motorpsycho was great though. I was hoping they would play the title track to Little Lucid Moments and they did.

first get the new one, it's fucking amazing and i'm assuming they played most if not all of it at terrastock.
for all time, 'timothy's monster' is my favorite, followed closely by 'trust us'. also, if you don't have any dEUS records, they mine similar territory, though not so rock.

i would say that while motorpsycho were playing the black box there couldn't have been more than 30 or so people watching. i'm curious why twilightman thought they were bad. they're close to perfect as far as i'm concerned.

I don't think Motorpsycho are bad. They have mad chops and their own sound. At Terrastock after seeing countless bands rip my mind a new one they seemed a little flat. Their show at Terrastock seemed too quiet which may be part of why I was left underwhelmed. One of the problems that Terrastock gave me was with all the weird bands it made the more rock ones seem even more conventional sounding to my ears.

If I saw just them I might have a different take. Also cock rock style is never my thing. Still it is good that the wex took the risk and brought them here. I am happy to see them book something unexpected and not a band that is having their moment in the sun. I would give them another chance if they ever come back around.
