JESSE MALIN
Malin began his music career, at the age of 16, as the front-man for the seminal New York City hardcore band Heart Attack. Following their demise in 1983, Jesse worked on several other projects, including the band Hope, before forming glam punk band, D Generation, for which he was the lead singer for eight years.
As one of New York City’s most noted bands of 1990s, the band released three albums, including No Lunch before eventually disbanding in April 1999. Being a fan of Neil Young, Tom Waits and Steve Earle affected his work; he spent the next few years working on a fresh sound. Former Wiskeytown front-man Ryan Adams, who’d been a friend of Malin since the D Generation days, was impressed with Malin’s new material. Adams offered to produce Malin’s debut album. The two headed into Loho Studios in New York in January 2001 and made an album in just six days. A deal with Artemis Records soon followed. The Fine Art of Self Destruction appeared in the United Kingdom in October 2002; lead off first single, “Queen of the Underworld” was a moderate hit and the British press quickly hailed Malin’s debut as one of the year’s best.
Stateside fans were eventually able to purchase the album “The Fine Art of Self-Destruction’ in January 2003. Tour dates followed, both in America and the United Kingdom. Malin contributed to two cover albums, first he covered “Hungry Heart” for Light of Day: A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen, and then he recorded a cover of The Clash’s “Death Or Glory” on the tribute White Riot Vol. 2: A Tribute to The Clash. He also picked up a nomination for the Shortlist Music Prize.By November of 2003 he was back in the studio recording tracks his second album, The Heat, which was released in June 2004, accompanied by a string of tour dates on both sides of the Atlantic.
Malin has also collaborated with Ryan Adams to form the band The Finger (the pair adopted the pseudonyms “Irving Plaza” and “Warren Peace” respectively) who released two EPs which were later collected into the album We Are F—- You. Malin’s newest album Glitter in the Gutter was released on March 20, 2007. It featured a cover of The Replacements’ “Bastards of Young” and a duet with Bruce Springsteen on “Broken Radio.” A music video was also made to accompany “Broken Radio.” You can see the video and hear music by Jesse Malin at jessemalin.com.

MAIN ST GOSPEL
The Main Street Gospel is a Columbus, Ohio trio who mix psych-infused classic rock with dusty country vibes and dirt-stained blues. The band was born in 2005, when Barry Dean–former tambourine shaker for the Brian Jonestown Massacre–began writing songs with longtime friend Ryan “Tito” Ida. Adam Scoppa joined the band on drums the following year. Dean grew up around music, as his grandfather was a touring and recording guitarist for acts like Roy Rogers & The Sons of the Pioneers and The Georgia Crackers. It’s safe to say that passion for country music was passed on to his grandson. Tito grew up listening to Hank Williams and Bob Dylan and also paved his musical path early on. Scoppa takes his back beat cues from vintage Chicago blues and ’60s garage. Together, the band has a strong sense of understanding and respect for the true roots of rock n’roll. Their sound recalls elements of folk giants The Byrds and Neil Young, while at the same time retaining the modern aesthetics of revivalists like Spacemen 3 and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. To date, The Main Street Gospel have played several shows with like-minded bands such as Dead Meadow, Hopewell, Floorian and fellow Ohioans Buffalo Killers. In early 2008, the trio mobilized themselves to Akron Analog Studio in Akron, Ohio to record what would become the band’s first 7” single. ‘All Your Love Is Gone’ b/w ‘Who Shot You Down’ was recorded and engineered by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, whose influence certainly resonates. While the songs are decidedly stripped-down in essence, they still manage to accomplish a big, layered sonic delivery. The Main Street Gospel’s debut album will be 11 tracks of cool, driving rock n’ roll titled Love Will Have Her Revenge, sure to please bluesy alternative country, classic rock, and psych fans

THE KYLE SOWASHES (world tour kickoff show)
Like it or not, the revival of the spartan, economical indie rock of the ’90s is in full bloom—and it’s not new bands answering the call; it’s the same stable of trustworthy songwriters back on the block, reliving their twenties and resurrecting albums that have long left the playlist. A perfect example is Superchunk. As Mac McCaughan eased into mid-life his playing mellowed, his lyrics became introspective, the “on our own” philosophies of a decade earlier eschewed by the logic of a family man. No disrespect whatsoever, but imagining what a new Superchunk album will sound like come September 2010 has me spinning On the Mouth for the thousandth time in lieu of something that may very well lack the vigor of McCaughan’s glory days. Perhaps that’s why in the wake of that new record, he’s also re-issuing two Superchunk classics in tandem?
Columbus’ Kyle Sowash, who could likely pen a memoir filled with tales from the road and indie-rock trenches, is upon the threshold of a similar scenario. In entering an age when those thrifty chords and base melodies seem redundant, tethered as they are to impressing undergrads and working minimum-wage slave jobs, he could have very easily went for the rocking chair and sat this one out. Let the kids seize the day and wreck nostalgia for the rest of us. But no, Sowash and his fellow Sowashes have no regret when it comes to regenerating all the fervor that came in hearing the first Archers of Loaf album or attending your first Guided By Voices show. Tired as you may be of those same three-chord anthems, those cajoling guitar lines dancing between verses, the energy that lasts till the very last drumbeat, Nobody, the Sowashes third full-length, is ingrained with a mantra of never letting up, realizing the best times you’ll have are on a stage in some nameless Midwestern town, so why slow down? Yes, you may have heard it all before—the bummer of a quotidian existence (“Rough Week”), the tribulations of overdrinking cheap beer (“Double Dragon”), and the brotherly spirit that pervades when a band discovers they can bend a Cheap Trick song into their own parameters (“Instabilities”)—but it’s likely those anecdotes have never been this frank. Despite the prolonged juvenilia that defines the Kyle Sowash experience, Nobody does probe the stress of getting older in a youth-dominated canon. But as best he does, Sowash shrugs it all off, having no serious qualms about continuing this caravan well into his thirties. The band has grown-up slightly, here preferring bigger, sharper tones to the scrappy punches that preceded this. That’s especially true on the grand finale, “I Would Like to Speak to Your Manager,” where a solo befitting the end of a Whitesnake video, displays a love of craft and goofy humor as much as the record is an homage to 1994. If there’s one constant in Columbus, Ohio, it’s the grinning bearded visage of Sowash, and it would likely be a benefit to this city if that boy would never grow up. - Kevin J. Elliott (Agit Reader)

ROSEHIPS
"Women and men think and create differently, which should be expected. Rosehips is simply smart enough to follow its own sonic muse and create music the way it wants, as women with guitars should feel comfortable doing. The band brings a softer, more emotionally balanced take on the boys' world of angsty indie guitar rock without shedding an iota of volume or power. It sounds like Superchunk's smart younger sister, the one with a cup of tea rattling on top of her amp and spilling over onto a stack of Sassy magazines and post-riot grrl poetry chapbooks."Rick Allen, The Other Paper

RYAN JEWELL
Ryan Jewell was born in a small Appalachian river town in southern Ohio in an environment set between the rundown post-industrial factories and train yards and the natural beauty of the forested foothills on the Ohio River. The juxtaposition of these two seemingly conflicting environments has profoundly affected his aesthetic.
He studied percussion and electronic composition techniques at Capital University and has since studied drumset with Susie Ibarra and tabla with Dr. Lowell Lybarger.
Ryan regularly works as a solo performer in the arenas of very quiet free improv and very loud harsh noise, and is often called to play drums for established free jazz musicians, experimental rock bands, and iconoclastic songwriters. His solo playing encompasses the worlds of free-jazz, electroacoustic composition and far-out noise from a drum kit, an oscillator and a selection of bowed and wind instruments and accessories. In addition to being a perpetual traveler of the US, he also toured extensively in Europe. He was invited to perform at such respected international festivals as the SOWIESO 1 festival in Paris, the Kraak Festival in Brussels, the International Noise Conference in Miami, and SXSW in Austin.
He has collaborated with C. Spencer Yeh, Tatsuya Nakatani, Reuben Radding, Nate Wooley, Jack Wright, Christine Sehnaoui, Larry Marotta, Mike Shiflet, Hasan Abdur-Razzaq, Tom Abbs, David Boykin, Douglas Ewart (AACM), Graveyards, Envenomist, Wasteland Jazz Unit, Psychedelic Horseshit and Pink Reason...
It's time to think that the way to be cooler is going out and start jumping in the streets.

LOW MEN
Low Men are a high energy Rock n Roll act from Columbus, OH. Formed in early 2009 in the wake of of their former bands demise, old time pals Anthony Chaffin (guitar) and Ryan Harmon (drums) would finally get a chance to once again share the stage together along with Guitarist and Vocalist Tommy Young. After trying out a couple different bass players over the course of 2009 and neither panning out, with only a week to find a new bass player before a show, the heavens opened and Ben Derolph descended upon us with bass in hand and the rock went forth!

ACTION CAMP
Action Camp was originally formed in 2006 after a chance meeting of an unlikely pair. A classically trained, folk-rooted girl met an electro-minded punk boy while both toiling in the food-industry and a relationship akin to a well-weathered marriage began. A shared love of 50's doo-wop, dark pop music, and David Lynch movies is the glue that binds them and also the basis for their eclectic sound. After playing in the Boston scene for 3 years and going through a few line-up changes, founding members Bengt Alexsander and Maura Jacob decided to relocate to Jacob's hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Action Camp has since become an ever-evolving entity, incorporating both live and electronic instruments, a flare for the dramatic, and an intimate live show that welcomes audience participation. They invite you to escape from the everyday mundane into the surreal, where “female vocals waft like ground fog above an ancient forest floor [and] a bizarre sense of darker monster surf music slithers in the eardrums” (The Noise Boston). They hope you’re along for the ride.

WINTER MAKES SAILORS
Sean Gardner produces home recorded pop songs full of simple, catchy melodies under the moniker Winter Makes Sailors. The songs are often of the slower breed, with a nod to shoegaze greats and folk heroes. He has been playing in the Columbus, Ohio music scene for nearly a decade and in addition to the Winter Makes Sailors project, he shares song-writing duties in Columbus bands Melty Melty and Bookmobile. You'll also find him helping out on-stage with his friends in The Kyle Sowashes and The Receiver. This could explain why he has been slow to finish an album.
