The venue is great. I really like the atmosphere. The stage is a little small (slightly bigger than Oldfield's or Ravari). All the bands had trouble getting vocal through the monitors, but things sounded good from the audience. Hopefully the sound guy (Bill) will get the kinks worked out with that, because other than not being able to hear yourself sing, it was a great place to play.
The room is a good size (not too big, not too small) and the ambience is cool (a little more shi-shi than your typical Columbus rock venue: leather couches, metal sculptures/lights, copper wall installations).
There's a garage door in the side of the room that they leave open. It gives the place a cool vibe and keeps it from getting too hot or smokey.
There's tons of parking in the lot across the street.
All this topped off by the fact that it's attached to a lesbian/biker bar (Slammers) could make this my favorite new club in Columbus.
Advice: take a monitor for the drummer (there is no house supplied drum monitor, just two stage monitors out front).
As far as the show goes... if you like The Whiles (which everyone around here seems to) you will like . They are some cool guys putting together some well-crafted, well executed, thoughtful music. We are working on setting up some more shows with them in the near future.
