Winter sucks, so here's something to keep yourself occupied and motivated.
Here's the deal: come over to the 15th house (369 e 15th avenue) on Saturday, February 5th at 7:00 pm.
We'll have a potluck, you'll write your name on a piece of paper, and then put it in a hat.
From there we'll draw names and you'll get paired with mystery band-mates.
To make it fair for everyone: YOU HAVE TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT THAT YOU ARE NOT PROFICIENT AT.
The point of this is to not only have fun, but to encourage people to play music who don't already and for those who are already musicians to try something different.
Do you wail on guitar? Ok, then you are the drummer instead!
Are you a great bass player, but afraid to sing? Ok, then you are doing the stand alone vocals!
Do you have a saxophone collecting dust in the basement that you have no idea how to play?
Have you never played an instrument before, but always wanted to? Or wanted to be in a band?
Here's your chance!
Then on Saturday, March 26th we'll have a show at the 15th house with all of the bands formed -- that gives you a little over a month to get it together!
Every band plays 3 songs, including a cover.
You don't have to be in a traditional guitar/bass/drums/vocals band, you can play whatever you want. Acapella style, home-made instruments, off the wall instruments like the xylophone/recorder/dulcimer/etc, you get the point.
I was part of something like this when I lived in Pittsburgh a few winters ago and it was a blast.. I think it'll be a lot of fun in Columbus and hope to see you at the potluck!
PS: If you can't make the potluck and still want to be a part of this, send me an email (
dearleanne@gmail.com) and we'll add your name to the hat.
