didn't know that flyer was racist until someone told me. I thought it was supposed to be a shocked person and something about pitchfork. i don't know.

I like pictures of black people. Unless it's 50 Cent or SLJ in Black Snake Moan. I think there should be more pictures of the black, brown, and Irish everywhere period.

I'm no expert on this but the expression on the black kid's face: wide-eyed and spooked and such has been used in the past as a way of demeaning black people (think: buckwheat). It's not harmless or accidental.

And if girl is offended by it then so be it. It's not up to a bunch of white art majors to talk her out of it or belittle her for the way she feels.

seriously, I really hate these kinds of discussions....not because they shouldn't be talked about or anything, but in all honesty, I'd just rather not know what my friends' stances on these things are. It makes everything all messy and shit, like, "dude, I never knew you were racist" could happen at any moment. I hate it.

can't we all just talk about the jambulance again or something?

martin wanted me to call you and read that statement over the phone to you.
mainly cause i think martin liked the idea of making a phone call to tell someone else to make a phone call to read something he wrote.

3cb would like to give 40 virgin wives to both ludsko and val.

i can see how the flyer wouldn't offend certain white people, but i can definitely see how it would be offensive to black people. put yourselves in a black person's shoes. think about the history of blacks in this country... the injustice, slavery, lynchings, etc, etc. then look at that image. it's pretty damn spooky. if i were black i think i would have reacted in a simlar way as Val.

i used the word "spooky" not "spook". spooky (it's an adjective that ends in a "y"), as in creepy/scary.

if we look the word spooky up in the dictionary (a place where people normally look up definitions of words) we see no mention of race in the definitions.

but thanks anyways.

that would be better.

Or, how about an image of a pig having sex with the Prophet Muhammad doggie style? If you think about, it really does work on multiples levels.

Speaking of which, anyone ever read "The Spook Who Sat By The Doorway", it's a blapoitation spy novel, some teacher thought would be great if I read in middle school. Seriously the most self hating shit ever.

I like it. Make the pig's tail a bomb fuse, and I think we have a winner.

So maybe let's not get so defensive the next time somebody suggests that Done Waiting isn't really up to an intelligent and thoughtful discussion about appropriating images of other races for shitty flyers.
