I think since another aspect is representing the local music "scene" (or whatever you want to call it) or local songwriting, maybe a cover by a band from Central(ish) Ohio would be OK in my book if it's legal. And to be honest, I think we could sell them for cheap (donate the profits to Hamster Chow or something).... but that again changes the legal issues.

I'll write songs for people to cover. I've already got more than I can play.
Write me, and I'll write for you -- da8withikea@yahoo.com

Chip is meeting with Unpossibles about it. They sound pretty serious.

We (me and Unpossibles) are meeting tomorrow to discuss the idea and try to formulate a plan. More details to come tomorrow afternoon.

How is that egotistical? If he writes songs, what is wrong with writing for people? People make a living at that ya know?

Not to be a dick but... from what I've heard/seen on the http://mtroh.tripod.com and ColumbusMusic.com websites, the ego is not justified. I'm not sure why or how someone could cover this stuff.

P.s. Learn to use a compressor/limiter. Your "tunes" nearly blew out my speakers. At least run your .wavs through some sort of filter before converting them to .mp3.

What? I didn't say my songs are the single greatest odes ever crafted out of only the thinnest air -- you lazy, puny mortals. Shame on you for thinking of playing anything else!!!

There was just some friction on how cover bands were gonna be able to play covers without paying an arm and leg for royalties. And I, do have a surpluss of material, so if anyone wants to play a song that they don't have to pay for, I'm offering my help.

I never had an ego before now, but it seems to be getting more street than anything I really do or have, so keep it up. Isn't Compressor a German rapper?

I've been feeling bad all day for slamming your tunes. Good music is a matter of opinion (though anyone who disagrees with me is wrong). You probably don't like my shit, and that's just something I'll have to deal with (you'll find me crying down at the local saloon). But if somebody's gonna cover a local tune, you know it's gonna be DB3 or something by Mulletforce 5.

Seriously though, if you need some advice on how to level your songs so you don't kill somebody's speakers (or eardrums) drop a line and I'll help you out with compression/limiting/leveling/mastering. Once you get the sound into your computer, it's pretty easy.

And if you, Andiewhatever need some advice on finding a better host or server for your website, I or several others would probably be happy to help. I tried to check out your stuff but getting less than 1K/sec. download speeds was too much for me to deal with when trying to download a 2 Mb file.

edit: clarifying to whom that was directed.

Thanks guys;}

I am working on a new site, with a shorter url, a counter, and lots of other yummy stuff, but I don't want to say much more until the second tri-mester.

Yeah, I am pretty lo-fi...sometimes I'm downright no-fi. The only radio I listen to is AM NPR, and the auto cassette is still my prefered recording format. I never meant to harm anybody's speakers though.

My server uses Dense Wave Division Multiplexing capable of tranferring over 460 gigabytes per second (3x 0C-12 capabilities) connected to three internet backbones (GC, Qwest and GTE) in Baltimore, Maryland. While I'm sure those 460 gigs a second get divided amongst quite a few users, I doubt they decrease download to 1kb/sec. Try checking your machine/connection, I'm sure my server's fine.

Plus, you not being able to download my stuff doesn't hurt anybody's eardrums/equipment.

There's nothing wrong with applying a little tech-savvy to low-fi recordings, especially when it gets your stuff to more listeners (in other words, people are more likely to listen if you aren't bludgeoning them with decibels).

Peace.

OK, thanks for the specs. They are so useful to me. On my second try, it seems I am getting a better speed on your site than the first. But my ultra-superfast rock and roll hyperspace connection is fine when connected to my Atari 2600 ultra-modded to my analizer, just so you know. Must have been some sort of magical jinx placed on it there for a minute.
Is there something in the way I type that is causing all this "yer an asshole" vibe? Sheesh ... oh wait ... here it is. [/asshole]
Sorry, I didn't mean to dis your Multiplex, dude.

Dude! Go to my website and checkout "My favorite Links", and click on the webhosting one.

You have seen how fast my site downloads. Tons of bandwidth, 500 email addresses, 800MB webspace, control panel to manage it, free promotion tools, like auto search engine submit monthly and a newsletter server (but it doesn't verify a user WANTS to be signed up).

ALLLL for ONLY $7.95 per month! Yes, that is right! $7.95 per month. And if you act NOW...awww, too late.

Anyway, I really think these guys are the BEST! Even if I will get $50 IF you click on MY link and sign up.
