for all the same reasons it has since the dawn if time. but now you get shot at school. (yes i know that there has been school violence in the inner city for a long time.) the only thing that has made this most recent colorado tragedy easier to digest is that it wasn't a student - this time.
i've read 2 books in the last year that have completely different approaches to violence in suburban schools.
King Dork, i can't remember the author's name, but i think you'll be safe with just a title search. if you were ever a teenager who spent all your time thinking about having a rock band and no enough time practicing then you need to read this. also, if you have ever tried to name a band - you need to read this. it's a little over the top and completely hillarious.
Hey Nostradamus, Douglas Coupland. This is Coupland's most modest book and i think his most heartbreaking. it is a story told from the point of view of 4 people and how their lives change during and after a Columbine-type massacre. it's about christianity and the way zealots try and cannonize and villefy(sp) people for all the wrong reasons. it's also about what happens when life goes on. and how you move on or don't.
i liked these books for what they made me remember.
