Just watched "Before the Devil Knows Your Dead" - amazing. Also almost done reading "American Psycho" - that is some fucked up shit.

Killing of a Chinese Bookie is very much an LA film. A good Cassavetes NYC film is Husbands.

Curtis, have you been to that Cemetery over across the Newtown in Queens? I just learned today that the funeral scene from the Godfather was shot there. We should go explore that place soon. Also, Donnie Brasco was primarily shot in our hood. I've been meaning to check it out again and see where it was shot.

Recently subscribed to Netflix and have caught up on some NYC films. After Hours is one I don't think that has been mentioned. Maybe it has. But it's got some really great 80's Soho footage. I've never seen it before and was really into it, not so much for the NYC footage but for the style of the film. Finally caught the Naked City but was unimpressed. Some great footage of 40's Jackson Heights and LES, and a great scene under the Manhattan Bridge. Need to give Dassin more chances, though. Recently re-watched Squid and the Whale, which has shots in Park Slope and Ditmas Park, and Mr. Jealousy for the first time, shot in the Greenwich/West Village region I believe.

The best New York film I've watched recently has to be the French Connection, if only for the subway scene - I actually jumped on the MTA website while watching that scene to see how accurately it was edited and they got it dead-on.
