Community Update from the UAC President on Liquor License Objections
Recently the UAC was informed that City Council's unanimous resolution to object to the renewal of the licenses of 10 local area liquor establishments have been lost either in transit or at the state's Division of Liquor Control. As a concerned citizen and advocate for the University Area I was shocked to hear that this happened. I immediately contacted members of City Council and asked that they do everything within their power to see that these objections move forward. The city has refiled the objections and I personally believe that the State of Ohio needs to see that the objections move forward so that the City, area residents and community stakeholders can be heard at the Division of Liquor Control. The UAC is in the process of writing a letter to the Governor's Office detailing the efforts of the community and requests the new administration see that Council's resolution move forward.

I ask that you too make your voice heard and urge Governor Strickland to have the Division of Liquor Control move forward with the objections. Constituent concerns can be filed online

Also, if you know anyone from any of the Columbus communities that worked to file an objection to these liquor establishments, please forward this email on to them so that they can contact the Governor's office as well.
Governor Strickland is also in the process of appointing a new member to the Liquor Control Commission and you might want to ask him to appoint someone who will take citizen concerns around nuisance liquor establishments seriously and to address them in a timely manner.

A Dispatch article discussing the lost objections can be viewed
Also on the Dispatch web site is a poll entitled "The Hot Issue: Should neighborhood complaints be a factor in renewing liquor licenses?" Please take a few minutes to take the poll and look at the responses of others.

I want to personally thank each and everyone of you who continue to support the University Area and help to make it a better place to live, work, and play. Together we can make a difference.

Thanks again,

Ian MacConnell, President
University Area Commission

February Commission Meeting - Wednesday, February 21, 2007 - Northwood High Building
This month's Commission Meeting will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at the Northwood & High Building, Room 100, 2231 N. High St., Columbus, OH. University Area Commission meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month at this location.

This month's tentative meeting agenda has been posted

Attending a Commission meeting is a great way to find out what is going on the university area. You can also if you would like to bring a subject to the Commission's attention. However, it is recommended see if your particular issue falls within a UAC Committee and bring it to the Committee first.

UAC Design Survey -
This survey information will be used to understand the aesthetic preferences of home owners, business owners, property owners, renters, and employees within the area commission. This will also help in educating developers and home owners what type of aspects people prefer in the neighborhood.
The design survey should take about fifteen minutes, and contains optional questions and comment fields. Please remember there are no right or wrong answers, and you should answer as honestly as possible. Your personal information will NOT be distributed to any lists or solicited, and your answers will be kept anonymous and confidential.

Committee Meetings
If you feel that your subject falls within the scope of one of our Committees (Zoning, Planning, Governance, Code & Environment, and Community Relations), you are welcome to attend a They are generally held on both the 1st Wednesdays and Thursdays of the month, check here for specific meeting times and locations.

Again, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the UAC, email back and also remember to check

Sincerely,

Your University Area Commissioners
