Okay, the point that I made was to point out that it wasn't exactly the same as national attention, and I assumed that some people didn't get that Joe O. is from here and a good friend of the bar. Doesn't mean I hate the treehouse, just means I was trying to show some perspective on the piece. It isn't like Esquire magazine came to Columbus and found a bar at the corner of two alleys and said wow - nirvana.

There is a certain amount of bias in one of your best friends writing a review of your bar.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go write my completely unbiased Pitchfork piece about the best bar in Columbus - Bourbon Street.

I'm going to start writing reviews for the only good band in this town: The Unpossibles.

A little perspective, please. At risk of being labeled a "hater," this is only a "blurb" written and sent in by a local patron of Andyman's that was then selected for inclusion on this list by the magazine; Esquire did *not* send a team of reporters out into the field to research the best/coolest/whatever bars in the US, so it's not really recognition of much of anything more than one person's opinion. It's certainly not the Official Esquire Magazine List of Best Bars, it's more like "what bars do our readers think are cool in their areas?" That's it. Check it out - the rest of the bars in the list are also "recommended."

So end of the day, it doesn't mean that much, does it? Not enough to get worked up about and call people "haters" because they find this listing dubious at best. Certainly, people are allowed to disagree that Andyman's is the best or coolest bar around. People don't even have to be "Hooray for Everyone!" about it if they don't want to.

I prefer the St James myself, but recognize that most people probably don't think it's all that special: just another tavern with a good beer selection and a men's room that can be a tad on the odorous side. At any rate, I won't be writing to Esquire about it; enough tool-knobs go there as it is.

and for the record, I love the Treebar, and have since it was the Hidden Cove.

Let the Treehouse have its moment of glory, whether you think it is accurate or not. Besides, there isn't a person on this board that doesn't owe some sort of gratitude to Quinn and/or Andy either directly or indirectly.

Also, it wasn't as simple as "Joe writes review, Esquire publishes review." Odds are there was some sort of selection process and some amount of research. I seriously doubt it was the first 100 submissions get published... actually, maybe it was... ya might wanna go ahead and flood them with those Bourbon St. reviews for the 2008 edition now... can't be too safe.

Finally, did anyone think to give Joe his kudos for getting a piece published? It's not a cover story, but something is better than nothing. Instantly it's "lame, he's a friend of the bar" as opposed to "good on ya, fellow Columbus-ite."
