my first Comfest alone; I finally get to check out the wammen - clothed and not

I've been sicker'n a dog for the last two weeks, but thanks to the glory of modern medicine, I now believe that I will be ready to stand and drink by friday...Comfest Miracle????

Okay... I had the very over-hyped fishboat yesterday. Meh. I was totally disappointed. I want a corndog.

see, maybe you're missing the point. fishboat is not solely about the flavor (which IS good, haters) but more about the sheer zen of comfest. i had two this year. both were amazing. because they taste like comfest. i randomly get a cheese-on-a-stick, but to me, most of the carny food isn't even on my radar. you can get that overpriced, mediocre stuff at any fair or carnival all summer long. but when you're at comfest, you should be eating the food of your community. jeni's rootbeer floats (with frost-top rootbeer, also made in columbus), nida's phad thai, curry from flavors of india, whole world's broco-burgers, shit like that. if you're gonna get overpriced, mediocre grub made on the street, it should at least be the stuff that's made here in c-bus, by your community and for the profit of your community. i was never that big on fishboat back in the days that the local family still made jerk chicken plates, but when they left, i found a new "flavor of comfest" and back then, when they still were on the vendor row rather than the carnyfood alley, they used to yell out "fishboat" at every 3rd passing person, and that just made them perfect for the fest. it was a weird fish-based party that i wanted to be a part of. and now that they have BBQ sauce for the fries for the 1st time this year, they are even more dear to my heart.

it might not be the TASTIEST grub on the strip, but it's THEE bygawd taste of comfest. and for that i'll get one every year they're there . . .


and it's also the reason i've never bothered going to their restaurant on cleveland ave.

nida's is owned by my landlord, and i just kinda hate giving him more money. and at comfest, the phad thai is always bland and greasy . . .
