Me? I'm in favor of it. If a group of smart, media savvy, and motivated artists want to take some responsibility for the arts scene in Central Ohio, I say let them have their shot. Look at what indie music did for Austin.

There's been plenty of buzz (and documentation) regarding the role of creativity in economic development the last few years. It seems perfectly reasonable that artists would want to use this relationship to create a better environment to work in. When the alternatives are either moving somewhere else or taking a straight job, it makes even more sense.

i dont care if people bash or praise the indie art thing.

although it seems like there could be better names for a movement. calling anything the "capital" without some solid facts starts to fall apart real quick. it lends itself to criticism easier.

I'm pretty sure such transparent self-aggrandizement damages any artistic credibility that may exist.

Also, they way "civic leaders" have simple-minded/blindly latched on to the whole Richard Florida thing only reinforces/proves the stereotypes of unsophisticated Mid-Western bumpkins.

...and "artists" actually having to support themselves with "real" jobs is just too horrific to even contemplate.

and that's not even beginning to get into WTF "indie" is supposed to mean. I must have missed that whole corporate-industrial-art-complex.
