I can't wait to check out the "Ox Goring" stage this year.

I'm going to start a drumming square. All people in it must not only have a drum, but take showers, wear shirts, the men must be wearing pants instead of hippie skirts, know what 4/4 is and play in that time signature.

They must also have guns ready for the after-show hippie-hunt.

i, for one, would like to think that the public information/education effort might help. this was decided by consensus at one of our meetings as a good first step - we'll give it a try, and evaluate its success (or failure) post festival, and go on from there in terms of trying to stave the flow of byob into the festival, because we have identified it time and again as an issue that affects the amount of work that our cleanup and safety crew have to do, for starters. plus, people's alcohol consumption, when unchecked, gets excessive, and we have to deal with all the concomitant problems that misbehavior and excess trash being generated and so forth present.
if the education/information campaign goes through and there is no decrease in the amount of alcohol that is brought in from outside, then we'll have to try something else, this was decided in a meeting a couple months back.
and yes, i'm one of the organizers for comfest - i work with safety, first aid and parking/traffic, as well as planning to volunteer with beer and cleanup this year.

I'd like to think that the increase price on beer is to offset the rising cost of a free festival that gets bigger every year BUT i haven't heard that from any of our comfest connected peeps yet.

as an addendum... i hate to be all duffy about this, but this discussion doesn't belong in the columbus music session. I think the tendency for all of us to focus on the musical aspect of comfest and not see it for the huge multi-faceted festival that is is hinders us from making legitimate inquiries into the ins and outs of the fest (like why they would raise beer prices, why they discontinue stages, why they don't like the whole byob thing, why can't all be asked to play the festival... etc...etc...)

As far as people picking fights, this board is no different than any other across the country that I've browsed. And sometimes, the poster is just asking for it.

The thing that I would hope for is that the regulars wouldn't be so quick to throw down. There are 8,687 registered profiles on Donewaiting. Only 1,226 of those profiles have posted more than once. I wonder how many of those people are just casual observers that would rather watch from a distance and not risk entering the community, for fear of being sucker punched.
