i'm anti-cleveland, so how anti-columbus would it be to boo the clippers now?

can we call them something else, like the Scalpers or the Tomahawks or something? it gives me dissonance to think about Clippers (fast trading ships usually filled with slaves and definitely manned by imperialists) feeding Indians.

The more I've been thinking about it lately, the more I cannot ignore the fact that The Clippers are going to change their name. I mean, they were the Red Birds, the Jets, etc. in years past. The Clippers have a very Yankee connotation to me (Think Joe DiMaggio: the Yankee Clipper).

If they are with the Indians, does anything locally make sense? The Columbus Wyandots?

Clippers would be cool with some new unis with a "C" on the cap.

i hope they don't but using the nationals change as a basis for thinking they won't is flawed. there are people in the camp that KNOW that if there WERE ever a time for a name change, now is it. the new stadium is a chance to distance themselves from the "only westside white trash go to those things, right?" attitude that a LOT of the 'burbs have about the clippers. plus, we've always dreamed of having an ohio-based-relationship with the majors, and now that we do, nothing attracts more attention than something as big as a name change. new stadium, the indians, a fuck-ton more money behind them than ever before, most of which is going to be aimed at attracting the type of folks that already spend mad cash in the arena district rather than the bottoms-dwellers the clips are known for, and i gotta say i wouldn't be surprised at all if this was the year for a new name. i'd be bummed, just not surprised . . .

Am I the only person who thinks that the Columbus team being the minor league version of the Cleveland team isn't really a good thing? I mean, who wants to be the certified second fiddle to Cleveland?

If they do change the name, how about the Little Indians. Then they could get Arnett Howard or whoever to record a baseball-themed version of the "one little two little three little Indians..." song.
