i was wondering people's opinions on high speed internet services.

i currently have time warner, and i hate it. the promotional period just ended and i don't feel like paying an arm and a leg for crappy internet, and if i switch to a lower cost plan i'm sure it will suck even more.

i know there is wow, but i heard their customer service is horrible.

what are your opinions, and are there any other high-speed cable providers that you recommend? looking to pay 30 a month or less, don't want cable tv.

I would recommend DSL over cable internet. Cable internet "shares" bandwidth among subscribers "on the same pole". Also since DSL is carried over telephone lines, it's infrastructure has federally/state mandated and regulated service levels. True, DSL itself does not have this, but the underlying phone lines do. But if you've ditched your land line, DSL is not an option.

I had DSL for a couple of years and absolutely hated it. It was down at least once a week and the service was often intermittent. I've not had a problem with TW but maybe I'm just geographically lucky.

dsl is distance dependent, is generally slower, and is not really any cheaper. I'd not recommend it. I have TW, $35 a month, no cable, and no problems. I think I've reset my modem once in a year. I was not given a speed option, I just called when I got a promo thing in the mail, said I wanted to pay $35, and they hooked it up. I don't have any speed related issues. I dunno what my actual up/download speeds are though.

I've had WOW for a few years and haven't had any problems. Well, it goes down occasionally, but nothing that can't be fixed by unplugging and replugging everything. Can't say for sure what the cost is, since it's folded into my cable bill.

i've had TW's roadrunner since the very first day i got online, never had any real troubles, and can't even think of going to anything slower. for damn near ANY reason.
