Since we're ranting today: If you're over the age of 12 please ride your bike on the street. I live in Vic Village and I have three dogs that I walk daily. The sidewalks are narrow and it's hard enough trying to walk my dogs without some asshole in dirty jeans screaming up behind me acting as though it's my responsibility to get out of HIS way.

those retractable leashes can cut through steel like butter! Those things do hurt.

Bikes are vehicles, but while I prefer to ride in the street, I understand the sidewalk use as it sucks being almost run over daily by bad drivers.

That's some funny shit. I don't have retractable leashes and one of my dogs walks next to me without a leash. I also make my dogs sit and wait while joggers pass. I am very, very responsible, unlike the fixed-gear jerks riding on the sidewalk dreaming of Manhattan.

agreed. walking a dog on a bike trail is plain stupid.

there is a rainbow of irresponsible flavors flowing through the streets. drivers, riders and walkers... there are a-holes a'plenty.

personally, i've been hit by bikes, nearly run-over by cars... luckily no run-ins with canines except for an unattended pile of crap here and there.

Dog owners are required to control their dogs…either by being on leash or by commands. However it is illegal (and annoying as fuck) to ride your bike on the sidewalk. YES i understand as a cyclist and a motorcyclist that it can be dangerous to ride on the streets with the cars. Tough shit. Pedestrians are even harder to figure out than cars, especially when they aren't expecting bikes to be using the sidewalks, so why you (i'm speaking to the offending cyclists) feel the need to shift the potential danger to the pedestrians is beyond me & just plain selfish. God, just ride in the alleys if you're that scared to ride your bicycle.

And when I'm walking my dog and see a jogger or bicyclist coming, I always get off the sidewalk and sit my dog in the grass until they go by. This is a courtesy to my dog, not to the joggers and definitely not to the bike rider.

I have to agree with Blammo, although I have ridden on sidewalks, but only if an extremely wide sidewalk, or in the middle of the night when no one is out, or similar situations, and I always slow down to walking speed if so. But generally I ride in the street, and walk the bike through pedestrian areas if not.

Back streets are the way to go anyway! Screw High Street/Summit/4th unless you're in a huge hurry and don't mind crazy people not paying attention and bus smog.

My feeling about a dog sans leash on a sidewalk is that even if it's the most well-behaved and trained dog in the world, they sometimes get spooked by things, and it would suck if the dog did dart out in front of someone or bit a wino or something out of fear.

Well, most laws require leash and or voice command/control of the dog. I've lived in my spot for 3yrs and have had no complaints. I know my dog, so make fun if you will but I'm in way too good of a mood these days to let the likes of David Cook, er, Ramirez bring me down.

jerks.

ps. My dog loves winos since I'm usually drunk when I walk him.

Aren't there leash laws in C-Bus? There are down here.

I don't ride bikes, but as a pedestrian and a parent there is nothing more annoying to me than a dog off of their leash. This is the sidewalk, not the dog park, I don't know your dog and if it gets near my kid, I will kick the thing.

Be responsible. Be considerate.

I also hate hate hate when people ride their bikes on the sidewalk. My stepson almost got creamed by some kid out in front of his mom's restaurant. Mr Oakley was displeased to say the least.
