Here's a shitty thing:

One of my coworkers flew to San Fran last week on SkyBus, she was supposed to come home on Wednesday, but now she has no return ticket. wtf. I wonder what the possibility of a Class-Action against them? Surely SOMEONE, Somewhere knew this was coming, and yet they still sold tickets.

Caveat Emptor, for sure, but still, where do you draw the line?

How do you bring a class action against a defunct and bankrupt entity?

I read somewhere that they owe $100,000,000 to creditors. If the CEO and other execs that left took a huge bonus/severance, knowing that they were going to close and owed millions of dollars, and were still taking money for services they wouldn't render, perhaps that bonus/severance could come back to haunt them.

I had a return ticket from NYC to Columbus on Thursday. If I didn't have shit to do I really wouldn't mind being stuck here.

Anyone know of other cheap flights between Cbus and NYC?

I'm getting a bus back. That ain't the problem. I'm talking about future trips. I paid about forty bucks a ticket on Skybus, and Greyhound is like eighty bucks and takes twelve hours instead of forty five minutes. They don't have Megabus service between Columbus and NYC yet either.

A co-worker of mine has a friend who was a Skybus attendant. Apparently when the news came down on Friday, the flight attendants had to get security guards to escort them out of the airport because other people were screaming at the flight attendants and trying to get at them.

According to the local news the ex-CEO is trying to restart Skybus.

About refunds: the only favor Skybus did anybody was to announce the closing before they filed in bankruptcy court. Those few people who understood the meaning of this 36-hour gap, and paid with credit cards, had some chance to get their money back. Anybody who paid by check/debit or asked for a refund after the papers were filed is dead out of luck.

As for class action suit: not gonna work. I'm a plaintiff, on paper, in the class action suit filed by Columbus Quest season ticket holders when the ABL folded almost 10 years ago. (That suit named the NBA as defendant along with the ABL, on the grounds that the NBA forced the ABL out of business.) Even at the time of filing, we all knew it was a lost cause. We got some bumperstickers and stuff from other ABL teams (the two-time championship Quest team stuff was already sold out). But that's it.

Some questions remain:
(1) is anybody calling out the Dispatch on their utter failure to disclose their involvement with Skybus in that ridiculous "How could it happen" front pager? (They must have asked all the sages who "couldn't foresee" the mortgage meltdown or the Iraq civil war to frame that piece of crap.)
(2) whatever happened to all that public financing? What relation did just the availability of that support have to the decision, for example, to order up a whole bunch of new airplanes just before going bell-up? Did anybody at SkyBus or Dispatch Co have an interest in the airplane manufacturer?

Grrrr.
