not only does it suck, i've gotten some random re-boots that are annoying because it takes like 5 minutes to reload the software.

I got something in the mail yesterday explaining how to use the new system. As far as I can tell it's the same as the old system just clunkier. Only difference i've noticed is it says a % how full my DVR is and it will let you program recordings up to a week out (don't remember the only one but i think it was only 3-4 days)

I have a DVR on one tv and the old analogue on the other and it is only on the old box right now.

I have to agree that it completely sucks, and the new features seem worthless.

We also have two boxes, one DVR one old non-DVR. The new navigator crashes the old box probably 1 out of 3 times, and the on demand channels no longer function. It's a little faster on the DVR box but still not as smooth as the old version.

I noticed that several of my shows that I had set to "save until manually erased" were changed to "save until space is needed." Annoying. But I do appreciate that it tells me how full the DVR is -- that is its one semi-redeeming quality.

I am hating Time Warner with a passion right now. When they switched over to this new system, it fucked up our TiVo to the point that we had to go and get the damn DVR and get rid of the TiVo. The first DVR box worked for two weeks and then started making a HORRIBLE chunka-chunka-chunka noise and then took 15 minutes to reboot. I called the cable company and the woman was like, "Yeah, it does take 15 minutes..." and then it still didn't work, so the woman said, "Okay, well maybe it IS broken."

I hate hate hate the fact that you can only record out for one week. With TiVo, you could say, "Hey, TiVo, I'm kinda interested in recording 'The Accidental Tourist'. Can you do that for me?" And TiVo would say, "Well, there's a showing of that on HBO in two years, would you like me to record that?" "Yes, TiVo, I would."

With the DVR, I think we got it on a Sunday and I asked it to record 'The Office' and it was like, "Oh, you mean the one on TBS tomorrow night at 10 p.m.?" And I said, "No, DVR, the new episodes on Thursday nights on NBC." and the DVR said, "I have no idea what you're talking about."

Only bonus for the DVR - recording two shows at once.

I really don't see the big difference, the new one looks little different. I like how it shows my conflicts so I can correct them.

I have none of this unknown show problem either.

Guess I just don't get my panties in a bunch over my tv.

Also, the clock is now randomly showing weird times and then switching back to the correct time, and when you're viewing a show on the DVR and fast forwarding there's no indicator of the time into the show (old version would say ie 43 mins or whatever).

I just really don't understand the motivation behind it. Was there really anyone complaining about the functionality of the old software? And if so how could they possibly thing this new software is answering those complaints?

I seriously believe TW thought they were paying too much to whoever they licensed the old navigator software from and found themselves a budget company who would sell them software that does pretty much the same thing for a lot less. That's the only explanation I can think of.

EDIT: unrelated to the new software but does anyone else have problems getting the national geographic HD channel to work? Sometimes that channel is just dead for me, and sometimes when it does work it has audio and (less frequently) video problems.

Upon further review, I have to say that I hate pretty much everything about the new system, for the reasons most of y'all have cited (although, happily, I have yet to need to reboot). The whole setup changes which buttons you hit to do what, and all of it seems extremely anti-intuitive. In addition to all of the other annoyances, it seems like the fastest fast-forward is slower than before, forcing me to catch glimpses of commercials. Ugh.

mine has actually stopped doing the random reboot, which it used to do everyday at 3:33 AM, one of the only times during the day I'm usually at home and watching TV.

It doesn't do that now.

Other than that, the new shit blows.

Mr. Duffy and I came downstairs this morning and found our DVR randomly recording "Jacob Two Two" on NBC.
We didn't ask it to do that.
WTF.
