OK, I figured out the problem with the NatGeo HD Channel. My signal strength is just too weak with 3 splits on my cable line.

I bypassed my splitter to roadrunner and the other two TVs and the channel was fine. It must take more bandwidth than the other HD channels.

EDIT:
I purchased a Bi-Directional 1 in 4 out Cable TV Amplifier at Radio Shack ($45) this afternoon and it fixed the problem. Now that I know a signal amp will fix it, I am going to see if Time Warner will supply one for free so I can get my $45 back.

I also found that I had to split the roadrunner connection BEFORE the signal amplifier (using an in-out-tap splitter) because the signal ended up being too strong for the modem and it was causing errors. Anyway, I'm glad I got the NatGeo channel working because I was scared they were going to suggest a new cable box and I would lose all my saved shows and programming as well as get the less popular 8300HDC.

ok, first remotely positive thing i've found.

in the guide, there's actual separation for 15 minute shows. so adult swim is easier to guide-surf thru. that's it. the one positive so far is it helped me to know to avoid assy mcgee.

and this is something we shoulda had years ago . . .

The slow fast forwarding, the non-intuitive set up, the harder to read typeface, and the inability of the machine to record new episodes of the Soup on E! are all annoying, but the worst is that they got rid of the keyword searching.

The ability to search and set up future recordings by keyword was great. I could put in an actor or musician's name into it and have it record whatever talk show appearances/concerts they were on. I don't usually watch something like the Today Show, Regis, or Rachel Ray, but thanks to the old DVR system, it picked up Ringo's appearance on some of those shows when he was promoting his new cd a few months back.

don't know if we're on the same new software here in san diego (sounds like it based on other comments here), but with our "upgrade" we seem to have lost the ability to create manual recordings. or am i missing something?

and while the old one always overshot while fast forwarding, the new one also overshoots on rewinding.

perhaps most annoying, though, is that if i go to the dvr menu or guide, so the current programming is shrunk to a small screen and put in the upper right corner, it stays small like that after i exit the dvr menu or guide, leaving just black space around it. so then i have to go through the rigamorole of either rebooting the thing, which takes forever, or cycling through the picture-in-picture settings until it sorts out.

otherwise i don't mind the new software. i like that the guide seems to automatically populate a week forward instead of you having to do it manually. and the type-in-a-title search function is easier to use on this one.

I didn't have many DVR problems with the new software, but it seems like more shows are being labeled as "new" when they aren't new, so more shows are being recorded. Only one random recording. I do have to push more buttons than I feel I should have to.

OTOH, I noticed a nifty new feature - if you aren't recording anything, when you change channels it switches between the 2 tuners, so if you're flipping back and forth between 2 channels, like I always do, you can rewind what you missed. Sweet.

Here's a question--Why isn't Columbus actively courting Verizon to bring FIOS here? If the city is interested in 21st Century economic development(and people), that would be an excellent place to start.

Some background:

http://www.engadget.com/photos/verizon- ... dia-guide/

http://www.zatznotfunny.com/2007-07/han ... ios-tv-20/

http://www.fierceiptv.com/story/verizon ... 2007-05-29

http://www22.verizon.com/content/consum ... prices.htm

Yes...That is a drool-inducing 15 + 30 Mbps.

I'm sure the streetcars will be very nice, however.

anyone else having problems getting a dolby digital stream now? I just noticed it tonight during lost and I went back and checked old shows I had on the DVR (that I know were originally in DD) and I can't get my receiver to recognize them in DD anymore either.

goddamnmotherfucker. I rebooted because I wasn't getting HBO on demand, now I lost the digital channels completely. A call to TW - We are currently experiencing a digital outage do not reboot or you will lose digital service.

Mine went out at 1:05 AM last night and never came back. I called TW and they credited my account for 2 days worth of service.

Supposedly a dump truck hit the fiber line.

What is it with the incompetent dump truck drivers in this town?
