one could also say that were the CAFE standards - especially the way they were fudged for SUVs - more intelligently set years ago, people would not have found out the hard way that they cannot afford to drive.

Applauding the massive hemorrhaging of several US auto manufacturers through short-sighted business plans, the resulting loss of jobs, and the very strong likelihood of a booming repo business as proof that the market solves all problems is one way to look at it.

I've seen two Smart Cars in the past week. A red one in Grandview and a black one in Bexley.
You can't beat the Toyota Echo for mpg and reliability, though. The Echo turns on a dime, too. Great in parking lots.
