There was a ton of anticipation, but it's been three days and I have yet to see an opinion.

The old records are great but to be honest it didn't sound like they practiced much for the reunion show.

I thought they did alright, given the heat, being the first gig in twunny years, etc. Jeff projected well, even late in the set. The other mics were not loud enough. Couldn't hear Ellen at all on "Skull & Crossbones". The most important thing to me was, they seemed to have alot of fun, making me wonder if they might want to do it again sometime, maybe in a nice air-conditioned setting with better sound.

Well, anonymous first time poster, since you asked, I will throw in my two cents.

It sounded to me like they couldn't hear each other. Like, once they got in a groove they were very sweet, but as soon as there was any kind of cue somebody would miss it, which tells me they couldn't hear shit onstage. If you've played once in 20 years and your music is really dependent on cues from the other people on stage, you are kind of shit out of luck if you get a bad stage mix. I would have been really pissed about the sound if I were them, but it looked like they took it in stride for the most part and like somebody else said, they looked like they were having a blast, which was great. Bad sound notwithstanding, I really doubt those dudes were a tight, polished rock outfit back in the day. I thought the flubs and dropped beats made the show really fun.

I dropped acid before heading to the show, so take this for what it's worth, I thought about 70% of the time they were amazing, like my young life and mississippi bo weavel w/ poem. During those moments everybody from the Cheater Slicks to TNV to the Black Keys made more sense to me in the grand scheme of things. Shit man, the whole Homestead records roster made more sense to me while I was watching the show. The Don Howalnd/Jeff Evans psych guitar work was truly excellent. However there were times when I could have throttled the sound guy like during skull and crossbones.

In summation I thought it was a sweet show and I thought the sound sucked.

Honestly, they sounded pretty much the way I remembered them.

Good to hear from some people who enjoyed the set more than I did.

Maybe it was a mistake to make my first post a (mildly) negative one, but I was surprised nobody had posted about the set, and hey, it's just my opinion.

No problem. The idea of anonymity on this board is pretty dumb anyway.

I really enjoyed the Gibson Brother's set. It was the first time I had ever seen them, although I have been in Columbus most of my life I had moved to Atlanta 1986-1988 and I have to admit I was not hip to them before I moved and by the time I moved back they were pretty much done playing around town. As other had mentioned the sound was not the best, I was right down front on Don Howland's side in from of the speaker and it was piercing loud but fro what I heard at times the speaker on the other side of the stage was no always on, I guess it was going in and out like sometimes happens at the Summit.

Sound problems aside, it did look like they were having fun and I know I was having fun as well.

Yes, there were electric issues on one side of the stage that kept cutting out the PA speaker and monitor on that side about mid-way through the day. I don't think we got it fixed til after the Gibson Bros unfortunately. that might explain some of it.

Also, I can confirm that Dan Dow borrowed a fender twin from tom of the lindsay and had it up to 7 when I pulled it off stage. Ridic. The guitars were screaming the whole set, as, at least I feel, they should have been. I loved every minute of it.

I think it would have not been so enjoyable had the set gone smoothly. Sound problems are insignifigant next to some of the goofy faces Dan was making. Fun was had, that much is certain.
