It turns out that LCD Soundsystem mastermind James Murphy was serious when he said that his band's latest album, last year's "This is Happening," would be its last studio set.
LCD Soundsystem has announced plans to play an April 2 show at New York's Madison Square Garden that, according to a press release, "will be both its first time headlining the storied arena and the final, definitive and ultimate LCD live show."
The band has billed the show as "LCD Soundsystem: The Long Goodbye," and is planning a three-hour performance -- the longest the band has played. The band plans to play a number of songs from its recorded catalog that have never before performed in concert.
A choir, plus string and horn sections, will augment the LCD lineup of Murphy, Pat Mahoney, Nancy Whang, Al Doyle, Gavin Russom, Tyler Pope and Matt Thornley. The band will also be joined by special guests, as well as some of the musicians the group has worked with over the course of its career.
The press release adds that LCD Soundsystem will be observing "a black and white clothing only dress code" for the concert, and that they "respectfully request that the audience do the same."
Liquid Liquid has been booked to open the show, and more details will be announced as they are confirmed. Tickets go on sale Feb. 11.
In an 2010 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Murphy suggested that "This is Happening" might be LCD Soundsystem's final studio release.
"I feel like this should be the last record because a lot of people make three good records and then they don't make good records anymore," the frontman explained.
