"Listening to new work from Sean McCann is always an exciting prospect. Go far back into this young pioneer's catalog and you'll without a doubt uncover a collection of music as diverse as it is long. What you may also notice is the consistency with which Sean portrays himself. His music is always fearless, frank and personal. Sincere World is another turn toward Sean's signature earnestness. Open Resolve and The Capital, both cleverly laced with swirling filter manipulation and confounding superimposition of manic and sloth-like compositions, exposed us to a more playful side of McCann's persona. These works are on the surface a bit zany, but deeper down they still maintain a charming character—something that draws the listener in magically. Sincere World is the somber younger brother to these two. Sincere World is adrift on Badalamenti-like lethargy, skeptical of the world around and unsure of what to do about it. But despite his bashfulness, he is every bit as charming and perhaps even more so, for there are no rough edges on him. In six movements, Sean takes us from under the bed to behind the bleachers and finally, to the bottom of the sea. Recorded mostly in 2009, Sincere World has after two years in hiding, finally mustered the audacity to come out into the open. This is the world Sean McCann lives in, and I want to do everything I can to live there too." - Michael Jantz

AS-005 - keith fullerton whitman / mike shiflet - "070325 b/w 080409" lp
So, 2010 is turning out to be a vintage year for KFW releases, following his stunning 'Generator' tape, a split with Carlos Giffoni and the incredible 'Variations for Oud & Synthesizer' 7" now comes this Split LP with Mike Shiflet encapsulating guitar/drone experiments. Keith's side was recorded in his home town, feeding a performance on hybrid Digital/Analogue Modular synthesizer through a mono keyboard amp in order to explore a topography of arcane, gnarled and visceral electronics. It's almost pointless trying to describe the noises within, because what happens from points A-B simply couldn't be articulated in any form, but its the way the seemingly static drone elements burst into shards of noise and almost percussive spirals that makes this such an utterly compelling listen and yet another example of KFW's unparalleled sonic weltanschauung. Over on the flipside Mike Shiflet holds his own with an incredibly dense and slow-building modulating pulse-wave drone that grows into an organically unfolding scene of burred tones scraping at the ear, before subsiding into throttled low end frequencies gradually losing the will to survive and dissipating into echoic guitar noise. Limited copies - very highly recommended.

AS-008 - providien - "followed by a wraith" lp
(mark van fleet and nathan reynolds)
“the midwest is a real shangri-la for bohemia basement bleakness so it’s not real surprising that loner tape grime duo providien hail from the snow-blasted state of ohio, and have a grim grassroots aura that just feels right. led by sword heaven electrician mark van fleet and partner-in-crime/childhood friend nathan reynolds (also of weirdo goths american jobs), providien’s debut, “followed by a wraith”, sprawls from disembodied horror atmospherics to no-fi sludge death marches to pure weirdo home-taper acoustic guitar meltdowns, each new zone more unsettling and brainwashed than the last. has elements of mammal (especially the recent drone-suicide ballads), the shadow ring (just replace all the british stuff with raw american sloth), and various other esoteric cassette miserablists, but that’s just a roundabout way of saying this shit rules.” - britt brown
the lp is limited to 200 copies on black vinyl with a paste on artwork.
all copies come with an insert included with album info and tracklist printed on cardstock or transparency.

AS-009 - 1958-2009 lp
amethyst sunset is extremely proud to present the final document produced by 1958-2009. matthew sullivan (earn / ekhein) and alex twomey (mirror to mirror / jugular forest) provide
us with the most beautiful guitar / synth ballads recorded on the one year anniversary of the death of the king of pop. all brand new material and not released on any of the previously released cassettes.

AS-010 - hny - "here you can touch the sky" lp
Very excited to be able to present the vinyl issue of HNY's "Here You Can Touch The Sky". Over the past few years, HNY hasreleased some stellar cassettes through Ranky Tanky, Not Not Fun, and Goaty Tapes when finding some free time from shreddingwith Social Junk. Here You Can Touch The Sky is a half hour full of haunting guitar + vocal work that was released in 2008 throughRanky Tanky and is now ready to shine on vinyl. This record collects all the songs from the original cassette release and includes onepreviously released uninstrumental. Limited to 500 copies (167 clear with orange splatter. 333 translucent orange) with a printed 11x11 insert with lyrics.

AS-013 - imaginary softwoods - "the path of spectrolite" lp
(john elliott of emeralds - solo)
If anything, Elliott magnifies the best qualities of New Age onThe Path of Spectrolite by feigning celestial weightlessness or heightening the synesthesiastic effect when he attempts to turn sound into perceivable colors. Conceptually, the album will need mineralogy textbooks and chakra training to fully interpret (ya might want to research feldspar fossilized lava and crystal cleavage). But that is what makes The Path of Spectrolite so engaging: the more you are involved with Elliott’s universe the more you will take from it. It does, as the title suggests, follow a path. Though it’s impossible to sit here and try to explain how each track differs from the next, there is ascension. Oscillations rise in pitch and velocity. When the listener encounters “Eye Color (Forest of Light),” the sky opens up and darkness is lifted from the album’s temperament. On “Rainbow Obsidian Key,” there appears a complex kaleidoscope of synth melodies ducking in and out of the drone. And on the monolithic second half, those ominous drones get louder and more direct the closer one comes to the 14-minute finale, “Crystal Pond.” I suppose that’s the final destination. It’s almost scary to think where Elliott and his crew (or perhaps just he himself) can expand the world of psychedelia after listening to something as immaterial (at least compared to his regular outfit’s output) as Imaginary Softwoods. The Path of Spectrolite is a rewarding metaphysical trip which garners inspiration from a very real and hyper-natural place.
