picked these up today from kyle…kinda stunned that th bonus material downloads are 128 (buried life)/192 (shot forth) kbps mp3 and that th accompanying album (first disc) downloads are 128. i thought we left that in 2002? packaging is gorgeous (really good photography/no pixelization in reproduction) and as is so uncommon with lp reissues, these are (thankfully) actually doubles that feature most all of th related b-sides as well. but where are th promised 'new liner notes'? all ya get is photos (cool and all) and lyrics (who gives a shit). i'd like to hear about th "creepy downtown burbank" recording studio and how beth became th singer after two other girls did demos with brad, etc etc. anyhow, they sound fucking excellent (tho even with th fact that they say 'reissues produced by brad laner' a lotta re-eq'ing was done, to th point where some of th very interesting overall original sound is gone - esp on b-sides like "world hello"…i wonder if brad never liked th sound - which would totally fuck up my impression of what he was going for back then - or if he didn't really have too much of a hand in th remastering, or if th old masters were fucked, or if he just decided to add a little low end…) and they're only $25 (unlike th KRAZY $40 single slowdive records - fuck that company very, very much) and i'm now not so bummed i sold all my originals many moons ago.
(#1 peeve, since yr asking…in th new 'less songs per side' double lp mastering, they separated th original last two songs on th first side of 'buried life'…that FUCKING RAN TOGETHER. wtf??)
