i'd just like to "come out" at this point in this thread and let everyone know that my band
belives in Satan and we've all been Satan worshipers for years. we fully belive in
Abortion and are planing on having several performed at our next show. in fact, we're
trying to get people to support an ammendment to the Ohio constitution that would make
Abortions manditory for almost everyone who wants to have children because we
belive that most people will not make good parents. also, we're trying to make marriage
illegal UNLESS you are in a gay releationship. 666 forever!

but seriously:

the thing about equating personal beliefs of people with their art is that it might make
you think they aren't good at what they do, when in fact, it could have almost nothing
to do with the art itself. and championing art strictly because of the beliefs that are
purposed behind it is foolish as well.

like things if you like them, but don't judge and dismiss things without giving them a fair
shake for what they really are.

i'm not saying that i can objectively listen to Skrewdriver without thinking NAZI, but
i have heard them and i think they suck musically. at the same time, if i were hardcore
christian, i wouldn't listen to christian bands that suck either, just to support them.

you need to see the art for what it is, or at least try.

i know this thread is practially dead anyway, but i felt inclined to add my thoughts.
i hope people don't dismiss The Whiles because i think they are really good at
what they do, regardless of who they fucking voted for.

(i also hope people know i was just kidding about the Satan thing...)

I don't understand why Beth's issue with seeing a band whose beliefs (not the whole band mind you) are adversarial to her own is such a big deal. It's no different than not liking a band because the lead singer wouldn't sign your copy of their first EP or a band stays at your place and takes a shit on the floor. Mrs. Children's comment was like a shit on the floor. This election was based on more than just Bush vs Kerry. Peoples lifestyles were in question. The legality of their unions at risk. Not only that but, with Supreme Court Justice appointment in the wings, the right for a woman to decide what is right for her body.
The issue really is Donewaiting and it's members being BIG Whiles supporters. Not without merit but, nonetheless. I'm sure this would not be four pages long if Carlos from Flotation Walls or BackwardsMan had written the same thing as Mrs. Children. They would be Right Wing assholes just like anyone else who have would posted what Mrs. Children had.
