Through Nov.3, you can buy a digital copy of Snow Patrol’s new CD, A Hundred Million Suns, on Amazon.com for the amazingly low price of $3.99. It took me a listen or two to get into, but for $4 it can’t be beat (unless you’re finding it ‘other’ places for ‘preview’ purposes). There aren’t a lot of surprises on the new one - if you’ve enjoyed the big hits off The Final Straw and Eyes Open, you’ll get more of the same - but there is one particular track that I find completely appealing. “The Golden Floor” has a repititious acoustic guitar loop and a drum beat that sounds a bit like sampled clapping and it reminds me quite a bit of something that Hood - or a Hood-related project like Bracken or The Declining Winter - might pull off.
Here is “Please Just Take These Photos from My Hands”:

The lines between Columbus Hardcore and a New Rave blurr even further. At least the girls are wearing tight pants and not stupid-ass JNCO’s.
Sweatin is throwing a cover show with a dance party afterwerdz. .
Doods from Reflect and Black Dove are covering Negative Approach. Three Triceratops trapstars team-up with Mikey from Absoulute Magnitude to do Minor Threat.(No word if Franz is going to sing Guilty of Being White,.) T-Tops is also doing a Cro-Mags tribute. Sweatin promoter Scotty and one of the Beta Movement cyberweirdos are on their Daft Punk shit. A few other bands are up in the air. Rumors of Black Flag, Misfits, and BLack Sabbath.

I’m going to be heading out NW for my honeymoon beginning Sunday. I’ve never been to this part of the country, and while we do have some plans, I thought it’d be fun to see if you fine readers have any restaurants, places to visit, stores, etc, that might not be on our radar.
We’re in Seattle Sunday (seeing Jenny Lewis and Conor Oberst*), Portland Mon-Tue, Gig Harbor Wed-Thu, and Seattle Fri-Sun.. We fly back Monday. And we’re going to see Brian Posehn on Halloween evening with Judah Friedlander.

These kids from Texas knocked my socks off earlier this year and I knew from the second I heard their CD Mending that I’d be reserving a spot for them on my year end “Best of” list. They spent a lot of time on the road in 2008 and in today’s music climate, I suspect that took a toll, especially when getting people to hear your music is an uphill battle.
A MySpace bulletin posted today (after yesterday’s foretelling “the rest of the tour is cancelled” bulletin) lays things out:
It’s never fun to tell people news they don’t want to hear so I’ll get right to it: The New Frontiers are quitting. It’s been a priceless experience, writing music together and sharing it with all of you in our travels across America, but the time has come for us to move on to other things. There are so many people out there that we couldn’t possibly thank you all for the support you’ve given us through the years. Giving us a place to stay on tours, making care packages for us, coming out to shows, buying records, feeding us, the list really does go on and on… We could not have done it for as long as we did without you. We’ll be playing a couple final shows here on the home front in Dallas and we would love to see any and all of you who can make it out. Thanks for taking part in the life of our band. We will miss you all…
Here’s a little something to remember The New Frontiers by. Sorry to see you go fellas.

I spoke to the world’s nicest man in Hip Hop today J-Rawls, today. He told me that Lone Catalyst had a new video. The clip pays homage to classic Hip Hop records, and makes a nod Krs-One’s “My Philosphy” . Peep the cameo by DJ Detox’s hands towards the middle. And myself at the very end. I was really drunk that night so I am thankful that the audio doesn’t exist to the public.

Normally I would never advocate being involved with politics. And I would especially never advocate downloading a political mixtape that involves Jay-Z. But if Mkkkain wins we will be forced to hear a bunch of coward liberals complaining all the time about shit they have no intention of doing anything about. So I want Obama to win so that I won’t have look at most the political people around me as lazy, uninteresting and impotent. I am also voting for Obama because he got Young Jeezy’s endorsement. And Jeezy is about his people, his paper and proper mental health. Sidney Portier, what it do. Russell Simmons, and Green Lantern prolly have other reasons. So they put this tape together.

Sched.org captured the love and imagination of everyone who went to SXSW this year. The tool was so simple it was the ultimate “why didn’t anyone think of this before” slap to the forehead moment.
They’ve now partnered with CMJ to put together the schedule for that festival. Click here to check out the schedule and plan your NYC visit.

Two Heartland Heartthorbs, Kid Rock & Dale Earnheardt, recently teamed up with the U.S. Military. (You know the same people that brought us the IRAQI War and Vietnam) For this hot new vid. I caught this cool, hip, new clip while watching Kit Kitteridge with my little brother and a bunch of other children during a matinee showing at Carriage Place Movies 12. (more…)

Austin City Limits happened this weekend. I’ve really been enjoying Sean O’Neal from The Onion AV Club’s daily reports: Day One | Day Two… Day three link up sometime tomorrow AM I would figure.
Highlight:
If King Diamond and Rush had a baby and then dropped it on its head, it would grow up to be The Mars Volta. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. To your face. This band is fucking horrible. Go on. Tell me I’m an idiot. See if I care. I’m going home.

The 3rd Annual Daymon Day happened last Saturday. People treated it like a holiday. They honored friendship, being welcoming, kind, exciting and adsurdly funny.
