Fela Kuti’s son Seun Kuti will lead his pops former Afrobeat Orchestra Egypt 80 across America, once again. Seun adds some contemporary influences to his dad’s sauce.
Brian Eno hailed Seun and Egypt 80 for “making some of the biggest, wildest, livest music on the planet.” Because of their range and appeal Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 are playing all types of events and venues: SXSW, Coachella, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest, Houstin I-Fest, International Festival of Louisiana, Lake Eden Arts Festival and many more.

I was able to see Wild Flag (Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney, Mary Timony, Rebecca Cole) perform one of their first shows ever a few weeks back at The Rock Shop. The sound was huge. The energy was off the charts. Although it’s early in the band’s career, they were tight and the crowd was in love from the first chord. I can’t wait for their first full length to come out.

The band performed an NPR showcase last night at SXSW, and you can stream the whole thing here.

NPR posted video footage of Jack White’s surprise parking lot performance at SXSW. Two songs – one a Buddy Holly cover, the other “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground.” After Jack’s performance, you get some music from new Third Man artist, Seasick Steve.
