Listen: Selah Sue “Ragamuffin” Supa Dups Remix ft. J-Cole

Selah Sue’s self-titled album debuted in the Top 10 in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The Belgium born star’s album will be available in America
August 21 on Columbia Records. The U.S. version will include 3 exclusive songs. Hot 97 premiered this J-Cole featured remix of the album’s first single Ragamuffin  today. Prince likes her music. She works with Wyclef’s dude Jerry Wonka. So take a listen. I swear it’s both beautiful and dope.

Vice @ Internet Week Schedule

I read and look at the internet sometimes. I also read and look at Vice. I actually read Vice before there was an internet so I am happy they know each other. Vice is having an Internet Week this week in NY.  Vice’s founder Shane Smith is going to give a Keynote address. DJ Q-tip and Tim Sweeney will deejay an afterparty. that Action Bronson is performing at. There will be panels on lots of net stuff from the 5 verticals of Vice. If you are like me and only on the internet and not in NY; you can stream it here. If you are in New York; then experience internet week in person. Itinerary after the jump:

Fela Kuti’s “Live in Detroit 1986″ Art Work Decoded

I reviewed the latest Fela Kuti release this week in the Other Paper. The funny thing is that the artwork was done by a Columbus ex-pat and CCAD Grad Zach Jaeger. I grew up with Zach and he told me that he was working on this when I ran into him at SXSW. He has lived in New York for awhile so this fact slipped my mind until he posted this on his tumblr today.

FELA KUTI “LIVE IN DETROIT 1986”

This just came out last Tuesday and is a really phenomenal album! I’ve been working on Fela art for over 3 years now, reviving all of the album art for re-release. This however is the first “new” record I was able to work on. We manage to get a scan of the actual poster and ticket stub for this show and used it in the packaging. The inside of the digi-pack is an adjusted version of the actual TDK tap used to record this show (I just so happened to have one of these tapes with the jacket). Although this is a pretty simple package and layout it’s one of my favorites I’ve done to date.
You can pick up a copy of this amazing album here!

Black Keys Are Filming A Funny Documentary

YouTube Preview Image

Awhile back I alluded to something that was going to make people happy.  Well, Pitchfork points to a Spin Magazine report that a “Bromantic” Black Keys documentary is  currently being filmed by the Keys’ long-time friend Noah Abrams.

from Spin:

The director of a forthcoming Black Keys documentary says he has no plans to make the rock stars look like, well, rock stars. Instead, the untitled endeavor will be “a buddy comedy with perhaps the greatest soundtrack of all time.”

“A lot of music documentaries spend too much time trying to make people look cool,” says Noah Abrams, filmmaker, photographer, and friend of the band. “I’m fortunate enough to know both these guys pretty well and their relationship is pretty incredible and very funny.”
