Columbus rapper/producer Path made an interesting instrumental album. He titled each song on Peasant LIfe after the government name of someone that influenced him.

Real sweet gesture right? He even made a song called Wes Eckmayer. Thats my real name. I took the name Wes Flexner when I was still writing graffiti and needed a nom de plume when making zines. Nowadays having an alias makes me seem more sketchy than I really am.

“I don’t think I can do this. I don’t even know your real last name. This is going too fast.”

Anyway, My song is alright. It’s got a pitched soul sample. But really it is not as good as Matt Whitehurst. That song has layers and progressions. Overall it just sounds cooler.
Wes Eckmayer is also inferior to Keith Lawson a more haunting, stronger, darker and sinister sounding beat.  I would also like to switch songs with Ron Barker.  That song similar is to Wes Eckmayer but has a more laid back party vibe to accompany the pitched up sample.

This band could be your life. Working the aesthetics of ’80s blue collar punk rock, The Garrison’s meat-and-potatoes snarl is reflective of the scene in which they play. For every Josh Krajcik/singer-songwriter opting for the open mic nights at clubs like Woodlands and Rumba Cafe, there’s a half dozen noisy, guitar-rockers pounding out music that inspires fist-pumping and slam dancing in venues that require hazmat suits to enter the bathrooms.

Like thrash metal, there’s a certain timeless punk rawk sound – The Garrison’s new EP, Joystealer, could easily have been released in 1987 or 1994 and would have sounded just as fresh as it does in 2011. My personal punk listening history is fairly limited to what my friends listened to in college (’89 – ’93) and the occasional CD I’d take a chance on when digging through used bins, but I’d put these guys in the same league as bands like Pegboy, Seaweed, and the Murder City Devils (and, hell, while I’m at it … Suicidal Tendencies).

The Garrison celebrates the release of Joystealer with help from Low Men and Ease the Medic at Carabar (115 Parsons) on Saturday night. Admission, as always, is FREE.

MP3: Racist Joe “Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit!”

At the 6th Annual Daymon Day Parade on September 17th, we will be handing out 7 inches of Racist Joe’s cult hit song Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit produced by DJ Bombay.

Song is hilarious as Daymon raps about mythical sexual exploits that resonate all the way out to Polaris over the theme music to Soap.

And during times like these, who can’t relate to the phrase, “Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit!”?

Reuniting for the first time in 20 years to celebrate the eighth year of Columbus Discount Records’ existence, the True Believers are:

I’ll spare you my own version of the True Believers’ back story and instead point you to a description (complete with Amrep corrections) here and a 2005 interview with Mike Rep. Suffice it to say, it’s a pretty big deal that these guys (and girl) are reuniting in two days. Leave it to CDR. Accompanying the True Believers will be the Guinea Worms, Unholy Two, Altered States of the United Snakes and Jeff Fernengel. The show starts at 10pm, and (like all Carabar shows) it’s free.

In related news, Nudge has his own YouTube channel and has been uploading all sorts of insane videos for your viewing pleasure, from an hour-long 1992 V3 show to Tommy Jay and Nudge (“JayFish”) in black hoodies covering “White Rabbit” for the video camera in 2007. On Daymon Day Eve, September 16th, there will be a show at Skullys Music Diner, Nick Tolford & Co, Envelope & Detox, and Freaky Franz & Cornelius Jackson will perform. Johnny Cashola & True Skillz will play records. The admission is 5 Dollars. The door goes to cover parade costs like permits and renting the required amount of police escorts for the parade. On Daymon Day, September 17th the parade will leave Tuttle Park promptly at 8pm. There will be a mural painted during the day. So feel free to come earlier.
