MP3: Racist Joe aka Daymon Dodson “B*tch, You Don’t Know Sh*t!”

MP3: Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit!

At the 6th Annual Daymon Day Parade on September 17th, we will be handing out 7 inches of Racist Joe’s cult hit song Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit produced by DJ Bombay.

Song is hilarious as Daymon raps about mythical sexual exploits that resonate all the way out to Polaris over the theme music to Soap.

And during times like these, who can’t relate to the phrase, “Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit!”?

Thanks to Michael Carney for designing the label and cover. Also special thanks to Mus-i-col for the quick turn-around on pressing, and Carabar for being supportive of this record from day 1.

After the jump watch people sing “Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit” on the corner of 5th and High at the end of the 2009 Daymon Day Parade. Continue reading

Friday at Carabar: CDR VIII featuring the True Believers

Reuniting for the first time in 20 years to celebrate the eighth year of Columbus Discount Records’ existence, the True Believers are:

Mike Rep
Tommy Jay
The General
Nudge Squidfish
Carla Lust

I’ll spare you my own version of the True Believers’ back story and instead point you to a description (complete with Amrep corrections) here and a 2005 interview with Mike Rep. Suffice it to say, it’s a pretty big deal that these guys (and girl) are reuniting in two days. Leave it to CDR. Accompanying the True Believers will be the Guinea Worms, Unholy Two, Altered States of the United Snakes and Jeff Fernengel. The show starts at 10pm, and (like all Carabar shows) it’s free.

In related news, Nudge has his own YouTube channel and has been uploading all sorts of insane videos for your viewing pleasure, from an hour-long 1992 V3 show to Tommy Jay and Nudge (“JayFish”) in black hoodies covering “White Rabbit” for the video camera in 2007. You can subscribe and/or check out a sampling after the jump. According to this site, some of these videos will be part of a program at the upcoming Ohio Film+Music Festival. (ht Wumme)

Video: ZeroStar feat Maggz “Bonus Track”

YouTube Preview Image

In last week’s the Other Paper, I wrote about an emcee battle that Zero Star brought here. Well,  above is a video provided by HU.Media that contains no battling.

But you will see rappers, a Homage t-shirt and Carabar.

If you like this song, then head over to Zero Star’s Bandcamp and check out Don’t Look Now. It’s the ep that this bonus track is on.

Sixteen Years by pinkreason

Details for this show were sketchy, but it’s all firmed up. Wisconsin native and Columbus ex-pat Kevin Debroux of Pink Reason tonight at Carabar (members of Psychedelic Horseshit and TV Ghost as his backing band) playing songs from Pink Reason’s new LP (cover above) and the Desperate Living EP.

Photos: Flotation Walls @ Carabar

Flotation Walls is probably my favorite Columbus, if not Ohio band. Last Friday they played an amazingly fun, free show at Carabar.

Tuesday night: Stepdad @ Carabar

MP3: “My Leather, My Fur, My Nails” (Way Yes remix)

Travis from (614) Magazine turned me onto the indie-dance-pop Michigan trio Stepdad led by a heavy-set, balding, heavily bearded bear going by the name of Ultramark. It’s the kind of thing the Care Bear dreams are made of. Yeah, it’s a Tuesday night but the show is a helluva lot cheaper (ie FREE) than what you’d pay to see like-sounding acts like MGMT and The Passion Pit.
