Wednesday: Over the Rhine @ The Lincoln Theatre

Over the Rhine has come a long way since the days where they’d play intimate, candlelit shows at Stache’s. These days, some 20+ years after OTR’s core members Karin Bergquist (vocals, guitars) and Linford Detweiler (multi-instrumentalist) first put the band together (and 15 years since the duo married), Over the Rhine is more suited for large stages such as the one at Lincoln Theatre where they’ll be performing on Wednesday night.

Earlier this year, Over the Rhine released the Joe Henry-produced The Long Surrender on Bergquist and Detweiler’s label, Great Speckled Dog. The twelfth CD of studio material (there’s also a number of live and greatest-hits compilations) doesn’t find Over the Rhine straying from their dusky, Americana sound, one that has often been compared to The Cowboy Junkies (Bergquist and Detweiler spent time as touring members of the Cowboy Junkies in the ’90s).

Worth noting, Donewaiting resident artist Clint Reno has designed tour posters for Over the Rhine and the band used his artwork for their 2007 holiday album, Snow Angels.

Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8. Tickets should run you about $30 if you haven’t already picked them up.
