Last time Ezra Furman and his Harpoons came to town, they were kind enough to stop by Electraplay to film a live session for donewaitingTV. He played a few new, unreleased songs, like the one above — “Bloodsucking Whore.” (And he spoke with Mr. Flexner about the meaning of the tune). Welp, now those songs are released on the band’s new album, Mysterious Power. It’s their best yet.
Ezra Furman & the Harpoons return to Columbus Thursday night to play the Basement ($12, doors at 7pm) with Tristen and the Apache Relay. Revisit the full Live at Electraplay session for a preview.
The Midgetmen were our partners during our first (and only) Donewaiting.com show during SXSW.
The Midgetmen are excited to be hosting our 4th Texas Jumpstart party during SXSW 2011. We’ve moved to the Hole in the Wall for this year, but The Midgetmen’s Texas Jumpstart 4 will still be 100% free with 100% free beer.
Please RSVP here and spread the word; Having some idea of who is coming will help us work out how much beer to give away.
And without further ado, here’s the lineup:
1200 – 1230 – 1, 2, 3
100 – 130 – Ham Sandwich
200 – 230 – Golden Dogs
300 – 330 – Sleeptalkers
400 – 430 – Country Mice
500 – 530 – Ezra Furman & The Harpoons
As our friends at Electraplay put some finishing touches on sessions by Everest, DD/MM/YY, Damien Jurado, Scott Lucas & The Married Men, The Posies, La Otracina and Fort Wilson Riot, we thought we’d give you another opportunity to check out the 10 Donewaiting/Electraplay sessions that were posted in 2010. As you’ll see in these videos, Ezra Furman is the walking definition of idiosyncratic. He yelps. He gestures oddly. He’s simultaneously cocksure and sheepish about his songs. Most importantly, though, he’s a fine songwriter, taking electric-Dylan tropes and slathering them with frantic confessionalism and a little bit of awkwardness just to keep things real.
Furman asks us to fall in love with his world. It’s not a hard thing to do. Keep reading for more videos. Continue reading →
