Weakened Wrap-up # 20: Bloggin Ain’t Easy

Look, Life really is what you make it and as dumb and silly and boring and rehashed and cliche as that sounds, that’s the way the cookie crumbles brother. I really have been on a pretty intense YEAH! LIFE! YEAH! IT IS COOL! don’t sweat the small stuff kinda trip and it’s great. Let’s hang out, I will make you LOL. Life’s to short to be boring and stupid. Everyone should be cool and fun instead. Life should be more Celestine Prophecy and less 48 Laws of Power. Gnome sayin?

I totally forgot what is was like to get excited for shows and I totally forgot what kind of a bummer it is when a band cancels. Yes, let’s talk about the bands. I saw some doozies! Shilpa Ray and her Happy Hookers, Phantods, Ghost Shirt, The Altered States of the United Snakes, ipps, not Goes Cube (super bummed), Puscifer (Maynard James Motherfucking Keenan) and I even caught a David Bazan song or two. (I know right). 1-2-3-go! Read more! After the jump! Continue reading

Ghost Shirt: Single #12, stream new album, download another album

MP3: Single #12 – I believe

You guys been staying up on these singles? If not, start catching up now. Branden said at the beginning of this 52 Singles in 52 Weeks project that he wanted each single to be just that — a single. And that’s pretty much held true so far. Already a lot of gems among these 12.

Here’s another new twist to the project. Last week’s single (#11 homeiswhereyouare) through #21 is going to be a complete album (which means #12 up there is also track 2). So, keep up with the singles on Donewaiting the next 10 weeks and you’ll have a new Ghost Shirt record. All the tracks run together, and violinist Sam Kim is composing some orchestral breaks, too. Once all 10 tracks are released, it’s going to be mastered and digitally repackaged with artwork and such. The sound is a bit different than the Ghost Shirt you’re used to — as Branden says, it’s more “weird and noisy.”

AND… That’s actually Ghost Shirt’s second album, the first of which, Domestique, will be out on Anyway Records in May or June (with niiice artwork; cover above). You can now stream that album on the band’s Facebook fan page.

Friday at Carabar: Smug Brothers (Dayton), Sowashes, Ghost Shirt, Bicentennial Bear

MP3: Smug Brothers – Low Like Nothing
MP3: Smug Brothers – Build Your Collections

All three locals on this bill would be worth venturing out to see separately, so seeing the Kyle Sowashes, Ghost Shirt and Bicentennial Bear play a free show together at Carabar is a no-brainer (esp. if part 1 of Lost Weekend’s two-night anniversary extravaganza isn’t your thing).

Icing on the cake is Dayton’s Smug Brothers, fronted by Kyle Melton and featuring Don Thrasher (Guided By Voices, Swearing at Motorists) on drums. GBV fans will find plenty to like on the band’s new EP, Stock Romeo — 7 songs/15 minutes chock full of home-fi hooks. Sample for yourself above.
